1. What requirements must you meet in order to study abroad? (i.e. GPA, etc.)
-Cumulative GPA of 2.75 for semester or year-long programs
-Cumulative GPA of 2.50 for summer programs
(GPA is at time of application and at time of departure)
-Must have at least sophomore standing during term abroad
-Must not be in final semester of degree program during period abroad
-Must have the approval of the Office of International Programs and your
department
2. What are the three (3) different types of study abroad programs available to
students?
1.
Exchange provides students an affordable way to participate in study
abroad. These programs utilize an established relationship between specific
universities that exchange students with each other with each student paying
the tuition and fees at their home university and not at the host university;
2. Direct Study Abroad program is administered by an organization offering study
abroad support services (i.e. School for International Training (SIT); American
Institute for Foreign Studies (AIFS); International Studies Abroad (ISA).
3. Faculty-Led - programs that are organized and/or accompanied by an NCAT
faculty member, usually during the summer.
4. What are the deadlines for applying for study abroad?
Spring: October 14
Summer: March 15
Fall: March 15

The previously listed dates are the last day to apply for a study abroad session
in that given school session.

5. What are three different ways that you can raise money to fund your trip?
In general, students may apply financial aid (including loans, grants, and scholarships) towards the cost of
any study abroad program. Financial aid eligibility is determined using the TOTAL cost of studying abroad
(including air fare and personal expenses), based on official program budgets provided by OIP.

6. Name two (2) scholarships that can fund you for your trip and how you meet the
requirements?
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Scholarships
Each year, Phi Kappa Phi grants fifty $1000 scholarships for study abroad. Scholarships are available to both
members and non-members. Applicants must have a minimum of 30 credit hours (or equivalent) and more
than 90 credits hours to apply. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have at least
two semesters remaining at their home institution after completing their study abroad program.

Fund for Education Abroad


The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) was established as a 501(c)(3)
organization in 2010 to address the need for an independent study abroad
scholarship provider. FEA is expanding access to study abroad by raising
awareness of its benefits to the individual and value to the collective, and by
granting scholarships of up to $10,000.
Applicants from groups underrepresented in study abroad and those destined
for non-traditional locations are given preference, in an effort to make the
demographics of U.S. undergraduates studying abroad reflect the rich diversity
of the U.S. population.
7. Where would you like to travel to for your study abroad experience and why?
I would love to study aboard in South Africa because of all the rich history that
has occurred there.

destination?
