Situation
As its name implies, the Evolution is a further development of the proven model
series Ecolino and Ecopower in a standardised design.
We decided to relaunch the two coffee-machine types that have been so successful
in the market, and to combine them in a standardised design moulded on that of the
Sinfonia.
The newly developed design of the Evolution is at the core of the new entry-level and
top-level models. Although they are now similar in appearance the two models differ
in product output and consequently in their applications too (see table of features).
Even though we have now merged the Ecolino and Ecopower into one, the features
for the entry-level and top-level models remain the same compared with the Ecolino
and Ecopower.
Sales release / readiness for delivery
The list below contains the precise dates for the trade-fair presentations, sales
releases and delivery dates.
The Ecolino and Ecopower are to be phased out at the end of February 2004, which
means the Ecolino / Ecopower versions will still be available until that date, alongside
the Evolution.

Operating panel / concept

The large, clearly arranged product buttons can be individually programmed. Whether
in self-service operation with a maximum of 6 coffee products or in the manned
version with up to 20 coffee/milk products, the layout of the operating panel is clear
and self-explanatory thanks to the simple labelling options.

Product selection levels

With the Sinfonias tried-and-tested four product selection levels Normal, Shift, Alt
and Shift-Alt, up to 20 coffee/milk products can be individually programmed on the
Evolutions different levels.
To ensure that product users always know their way around the four levels, both the
text indications on the display and the product indications with product LED provide
support.
In accordance with the following pictures the meanings of the four different product
LED displays are avowed.

Display indication / languages

The languages German, English, French, Dutch, Italian and Spanish will also be
available on the Evolution. The texts have been retained from the Sinfonia and
adapted for the Evolution.
The clear, self-explanatory texts are displayed on a white backlit LCD with two lines
of 20 characters each.
Button assignment
As mentioned earlier the six or eight product buttons (incl. hot water and steam
button) can be programmed individually. Unused product buttons can be replaced
with the blanking caps that are also used on the Sinfonia, Instead of the silver product
buttons. On design variants not equipped with the steam and/or hot-water dispenser
blanking caps are used to cover up the positioning slots for the dispensers.
Product symbols can still be used for the button labelling (application example with
the self-service version).

Service technician / customer menu programming level

The layout of the service and customer menu programming for the Evolution has
been adapted from the Sinfonia layout (see programming instructions). This means
that the presentation of the programming in the Franke product portfolio has also
been standardised.
All programming operations can also be carried out using the Service Tool, which is
to be available as of 1.03.2004 (for more information see the section on Customer
Service).
Labelling of the printable foil
The printable foil can be labelled individually. The Service Tool is an extremely simple
way of designing the labelling and printing it out on the supplied labelling foil using a
standard commercial laser or inkjet printer (Service Tool available as of 1.03.2004).
Until the launch of the Service Tool all labelling foils will be designed and printed out
by Franke Kaffeemaschinen AG.
The standard button assignments for the relevant basic versions are illustrated in the
sales folder. For customised foil labelling or design, please use the labelling template
contained in the sales folder and enclose it with the order.
Instructions
Due to the great deal of favourable feedback from the market, we have retained the
design structure, packaging and format of the Sinfonia operating and programming
instructions for the Evolution. The operating instructions in particular can also be
used as a very good sales tool. The instructions are available in German, English and
French.
More information on the operating concept and the programming options can be
found in the operating and programming instructions.

Customer Service
Technical information / training / CSS
The extensive technical information also comprises a training concept that highlights
the differences between Ecolino / Ecopower and the Evolution. This means that no
specific training courses will be offered before the Evolution models are launched
onto the market. Individual questions concerning the Evolution can be addressed
during the training courses that are regularly provided at Franke during the year.
Technical information will be provided by Customer Service from the start of January
2004.
The KSS (Coffeemachine Service System) will also be updated with the relevant
drawings, spare parts and information on the Evolution. The entry-level and top-level
models are to be released onto the market at the beginning of February 2004, and
Customer Service will inform you accordingly.
Service tool
The Evolution is to be included in the recently introduced Sinfonia Tool software as
of 1 March 2004, which means that the settings and diagnostics currently carried out
on the Sinfonia via computer or laptop can also be implemented on the Evolution.
What is new is that as of 1 March 2004 the software previously marketed under the
name Sinfonia Tool will be renamed Service Tool.

Setting up the appliance

The dispenser must be placed on a level, stable surface in a room with adequate air circulation. The
ambient temperature should be between 15 and 25C. Rooms with high humidity may cause the
dispenser to malfunction.
After the dispenser has been connected, open the door of the machine to switch on the appliance. You
should now be able to hear the water flowing. If this is not the case, open the shut-off valve. Once the
boiler has filled with water, the chocolate dispenser reaches operating temperature after about 5 minutes.
The green LED shows that the appliance is now ready for operation.
While the dispenser is heating up, the container can be filled with the chocolate product.
A technician is required to connect the dispenser professionally

3.4

Descaling

To guarantee uniform temperature and dosage, it is necessary to descale the dispenser at regular
intervals depending on the hardness of the water.
Please proceed as follows:

Close the shut-off valve and drain about 0.5 litre of water through the hose at the back of the
machine by removing the red and white plug. Now replace the plug, disconnect the appliance from
the wall outlet, remove the back panel (this is secured by two screws at the bottom).

Remove the screws from the boiler cover. Add a decalcifier, open the shut-off valve, insert the plug
into the socket and switch on the dispenser. Place a cup in position and press the Clean button 2
or 3 times so that the decalcifier and the water become mixed.

The appliance should remain in operation for about 30 min. without any water being drained. After
this time has elapsed, press the Clean button 10 to 15 times. Close the shut-off valve and switch
off the dispenser.

Now drain the water through the hose on the rear of the dispenser by removing the red plug. As
soon as all the water has been drained, close the hose, open the shut-off valve and switch on the
dispenser once again.

When the dispenser is ready for operation, press the Clean button 20 times to flush through the
boiler. When flushing is complete, replace the boiler cover and the rear panel. The dispenser is
now ready for operation once again.

Note:
If the appliance is not to be used for longer periods and during holidays, drain the water and empty the
product container. When preparing the appliance for use, the Clean button should be operated about
20 times before a beverage is brewed.

Programming

4.1

Product settings:

The product and water quantities are adjusted by means of individual potentiometers:
Fig 1: Chocolate control board

Fig 2: information sticker

TD-100597.doc

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine

11 / 20

Franke Kaffeemaschinen AG
Delay setting

Potentiometers 1 and 4 are used to adjust the starting time delay for either a
large cup of chocolate or a small cup of chocolate.
This adjusts the starting time of the powder supply spiral in relation to the
starting time of the water flow.
Quantity of powder

Potentiometers 2 and 5 are used to adjust the amount of aroma product

powder for a large cup of chocolate and a small cup of chocolate.
Quantity of water

Potentiometers 3 and 6 are used to adjust the amount of water dispensed for a
large cup of chocolate and a small cup of chocolate.
Temperature
Potentiometer is used to adjust the temperature of the water (temperature of

the drink being brewed).

The temperature setting is the same for both products and cannot be set
individually.

4.2

Basic approach when making the settings

Basic settings: set delay, water and amount of powder to the minimum
(potentiometers 1 to 6)

Increase the amount of water until the desired quantity for the beverage has been obtained
(turn potentiometers 3 & 6 in the "Plus" direction).

Reduce the sweetness by increasing the delay

(Turn potentiometers 1 & 4 in the "Plus" direction).

4.3

Please note

When making the settings care must be taken to ensure that once the water valve has been
closed (setting with potentiometers 3 & 6) no more powder is transported (setting with
potentiometers 2 & 5). This could lead to malfunctions and residues collecting in the mixing
chamber.

If a product with a high sugar content is prepared, the quantity should be reduced (setting with
potentiometers 2 & 5). This setting ensures that the finished beverage is mixed better.

If the powder has become lumpy due to moisture, the time delay
(setting with potentiometers 1 & 4) should be set to the minimum. This reduces the pre water flow.

Programming
Install Card
All of the Evolution settings can be programmed with the Install Card. Navigation is via the four function
keys as shown below. The card contains the chip for the machine and is inserted from below into the
card reader; the card must remain there while performing the settings. The first time a new card is used
the PIN code has to be entered and confirmed. The PIN code can be entered incorrectly a number of
times without it being disabled. If, however, you forget the PIN code, the card is unusable and must be
replaced. Once the entry has been confirmed, the card can be removed for 5 minutes without having to
re-enter the code; the programming displays the exited menu setting. The described settings can also be
made using the Service Tool. Only with the Service Tool, in the labelling foil editor, is it possible to label
the foils. (the Service Tool is described in separate instructions.)

2/3

Install Card in the

card reader
1

The Clean button is used for entering a menu or submenu, for confirming an entry
(Enter / Save), and for moving to the next position when entering a number.

2/3

The -/+ button is used for making a selection in a menu. They are also used in a
submenu for increasing or decreasing a value to the desired setting as well as for
activating or deactivating a function.

The Exit button is used to leaving a menu or submenu/setting without saving.
