Specifications of Earthwork in Excavation


1. EXCAVATION:-foundation trenches should be dug out to exact width of
foundation concrete and sides shall be vertical. If the soil is not good or does not
permit the vertical sides. The sides should be sloped back or protected with
timber shoring
2. FINISH OF TRENCH-The bottom of the trenches should be perfectly levelled
bot longitudinal and transversely. The bed of the trench should be well watered
and well rammed.
3. FINDS-Any treasure and valuables found , shall be the property of government
4. WATER IN FOUNDATION-water in the trench if any should be pumped out
using water pumps without any extra payment
5. MEASUREMENT the measurement in the trench should be in cum. Rate
shall be for complete work for 30m lead and 1.5m lift and rate for extra lead and
lift per lead and lift shall be charged.

PLASTERING
1.

The joints of the brickwork shall be raked out to a depth of 18mm and the surface shall be
washed and kept wet for 2days before plastering

2.

The thickness of plastering in general is 12mm and to ensure uniform thickness of plaster,
patches of 15cm x 15cm 1m apart shall be dashed to act as a guide

3.

First motar shall be dashed and pressed over the surface and the brought to a true smooth and
uniform surface by means of float and trowel.

4.

External plastering shall be started from the top and worked down towards floor and inside
wherever the frame is ready

5.

Ceiling plastering shall be completed before starting wall plaster

6.

All corners and edges shall be rounded

7.

The plastered surface shall be kept wet for 10days

8.

The work shall be tested frequently with a straight edge and plumb bob.at the end of the day
plaster shall be cut of straight to the line.

9.

When the next day work starts the clean line shall be scraped off and wet with slurry.

10. Any defective plaster shall be cut off in rectangular shape and replaced.

CENTERING AND SHUTTERING


1.

Shuttering shall be either of plane wooden planking or steel stiffened by angle iron

2.

It shall be supported on battens, beams , props properly braced together so as to make


the formwork rigid strong

3.

Props shall consist of ballies placed on wooden planks or brick pillars in mud mortar.

4.

The shuttering shall be kept clear of wall bearing and made rest on battens

5.

It shall be of smooth and even surface and its joints shall be lines

6.

Surface of shuttering shall be applied with a wash of raw linseed oil etc.

7.

For slabs and beams small camber shall be given in the shuttering say 1cm per 2.5m

8.

Centering and shuttering shall not be removed before 14days in general

9.

It should be removed and slowly and carefully without any shock or vibration

10. It shall be measured in sq.m and the surface with in contact with concrete shall be
measured.

D.P.C
1. It shall consist of cement , coarse sand and aggregates of 1:1.5:3 mix
with 2% of Impermo around 1kg per bag of cement
2. DPC coarse shall be applied at the plinth level in a horizontal layer
of 2.5cm
3. MIXING-shall be done in a masonary platform or iron sheet tray
4. CURING-shall be cured by watering and kept wet for 7 days

QUANTITY SURVEYING
It helps in finding how the quantities are taken off so that they can be
helpful to prepare the bills and also they will help in finding the
difference between the actual work and the planned work.
Planned work can be finding from the detailed drawings and the
detailed estimates, then the quantities which are taken off are
compared to find the difference.
For doing any civil project work we are required to know about the
estimated cost of project so that the funds which are required can be
made available and if the funds are not sufficient then the project will
be facing many project
The whole project will be divided into smaller works and then quantity
of various items is taken .

TAKING OFF QUANTITY


It is a process of measuring dimensions from working drawings and
recording them is a systematic and concise manner on a paper along
with the description of each item required for completing quantities of
materials and labour required for construction of projects
