Theme:
Accidents in the workplace: Hospital is not a safe place anymore
Accidents in the workplace comprises of several situations and conditions which mainly caused
by the people in charge or workers; in this case, it is the care-giver such as doctors, nurses,
midwives, etc. The victims of the effect are health workers itself and the patients. According to
Health and Safety Executive in Northern Ireland (HSENI), each workplace should have a record
of each accident happened in the site of work such as death, major injuries, dangerous incidents
and any other injury that causes workers to stop working for more than three days. Accidents can
also be defined as medical errors, injuries and infections.
Hospital is a place for a patient to get care for the betterment of their health problems. There are
two main viewpoints, which are workers safety and patients safety. Workers safety is included
in the occupational health, while patients safety relies on the factors based on the workers. The
safety of a hospital can be assessed by hospitals safety scores.
The goals of these exposure are to increase quality of health services, discovering and reducing
the risks of accidents in medical practice as one hospital that carries the duty to protect the patients
from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
Currently, many countries across Asia face unique challenges in aligning its health services with
the needs of its population, mainly because of lacking numbers of (competent) health workers,
income levels and wide disparities in each region. Most communities are located in isolated
mountain regions of the country or in coastal areas that are difficult to reach.
