‘tis with a heavy heart that | issue this letter to the Ligonier Valley Schoo! District community. A threat was found
inthe school istrict identifying that there would be an act of violence on December 21, 2016. The threat was not
specific to a building, nor was it specific to our school district. However, our primary concern is the safety of our
students.
‘We have been working with local law enforcement to determine the source of this threat. At this time, we are
asking that you talk with your children to determine if they have any information that might assist us in our
investigation. if you are aware of any information, please call my office at 724-238-5696, or Ligonier Township
Police at 724-238-5105,
Due to the concern around this threat, we are immediately instituting the following protective measures:
There will be an increased presence of law enforcement at all district buildings.
2. We recommend that you do not send backpacks, duffel bags, purses, or lunch bags with students,
Any items of this nature will be searched,
3. Evening activities which are open to the public and scheduled to occur at any of the district buildings
are cancelled for the remainder of this week (Including the 12/19/16 Christmas Concert at LVE)
| understand that there will be many parents who choose not to send their children to school during the upcoming
days. In the event that you make this decision, please follow regular absentee procedures by submitting a written
excuse upon the return of your child
‘Obviously, this is a disturbing situation for our community, and | ask that we work together to resolve this threat.
Please refrain from making unsubstantiated comments to your children, including through social media. We will
utilize the One Call Notification System and our district website (www. lvsd,k12,pa.us) to update you on any
changes to the current situation. Again, if you have information regarding the source of this threat, please contact
