How have you been, everyone? I feel as if I have not totally digested the food I ate over
New Year's yet and I'm still full. Since my family lives with my grandparents, we don't go
to the countryside and my relatives gather in our house. My uncle's family lives in China.
They havent visited Korea in a long time and they stayed in our house for the night. I
thought it was a shame that I couldn't spend last Chuseok in Korea, so I wanted to spend
a New Year's holiday with many people around in a cheerful atmosphere, so I talked my
cousins into playing the Yut game with me.

I wonder if you had some rice-cake soups. Since I'm not going to have the chance once I
go back to Japan, I had rice-cake soup for all three meals on New Year's Day. Honestly, I
feel like having rice again now, but the chewy and tasty rice-cake soup was very good. In
Korea, people say that you should eat rice-cake soup in order to get one year older.
When I was little, I wanted to grow up really soon, so I would be greedy and eat two
bowls at a time on purpose. Well right now, if that were the truth, I would not eat any ricecake soup at all so that I wouldn't get a year older! However, since I know that I get older
whether I eat rice-cake soup or not, I got greedy again and ended up having as many as
three bowls of rice-cake soups!

I think the first day of the year must be a special day in any country in the world. And I
think that the food that people eat and the games they play must be also different from
country to country. In fact, in Japan as well, they eat the Japanese rice-cake soup, called
Ojyoni on New Year's Day. But it's very different from the Korean rice-cake soup.
Everyone, what do you eat when the New Year comes around? By any chance, do those
foods have special meanings too?

Since I've had rice-cake soups and became one year older, I'll need to get more mature
