QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The roofing system shall be installed by a qualified subcontractor for a roofing

applicator, certified by the roofing system manufacturer, with minimum 3 years
experience, and in compliance with shop drawings and details submitted, which shall
be approved by the roofing system manufacturer. There shall be no deviations made
without the prior written approval of the roofing system manufacturer. Upon
completion of the installation, an inspection will be conducted by a technical
representative of the roofing system manufacturer to ascertain that the membrane
roofing system has been installed according to the roofing system manufacturer's
published specifications and details.
B. The roofing system shall be ICBO approved, U.L. listed Class 'A' and F.M. class I
approved.
1.05

SUBMITTALS

A. A review of the roofing contractor's submittal package by the roofing membrane

manufacturer is required prior to installation.
B. Prior to project installation by the roofing membrane applicator, a specification, roof
shop drawing and full roof details including roof field sheet layout drawing, parapets,
eaves, wallheads, upstands, drain, outlets and all other penetrations shall be approved
in writing by the roofing membrane manufacturer, to ensure performance up to the
roof warranty.
C. A Pre-roofing conference shall be called by roof contractor when he is ready to start.
Mandatory attendance by architect, manufacturer, general contractor, RC

Samples: Submit three (3) samples each of the roof field membrane, the roof flashing
membrane, the insulation board and fasteners for concrete and metal decks, the
separation sheet, the filter cloth, the ballast, the termination bar and fasteners, the
sealant, the metal counterflashing and fasteners. The ballast samples shall weight .5
kg each, in bags. The field membrane samples shall each consist of a T-lap joint; hear
welded, 450 mm square.
PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Deliver materials to the site in the original unopened containers labeled with the
manufacturer's name, brand name and installation instructions. Store all materials
according to manufacturer's written instructions.
B. Prolonged exposure of curable materials (i.e., secured flashing, adhesives, sealant and
pourable sealer) to temperatures greater than 27oC (80oC) will reduce the shelf life of
those materials. When liquid adhesives and sealants are exposed to lower
temperatures, restore to a minimum of 15oC (60oF) before use.
C. Insulation and underlayment shall be stored so it is kept dry and is protected from the
elements. Store insulation on a pallet and completely cover with a breathable material
such as a tarpaulin or canvas. If the insulation is lightweight it shall be weighted to
prevent wind damage.
D. Do not store adhesive containers with opened lids due to the loss of solvent, which
will occur from evaporation.
1.07

JOB CONDITIONS

A. General
1.
2.

The slope of the roofs shall be 1.5% (15 mm in 1.0 meter).

Roofs shall be installed on a cured sand and cement screed

B. The exposed roofing membrane shall be protected and areas of concentrated traffic
should be confined to preserve the uniform clean surface of the membrane and
prevent discoloration during installation. If access is required to finished roofs other
than along established walkways; the roofing contractor shall provide and place
25mm thick by 550mm wide boards to protect the finished roof.

a.

Install insulation boards in minimum of two layers, offsetting side and end
joints 200mm minimum. Cut or score and break boards at valleys and ridges,
so that insulation lays flat on the roof deck. Use approved fasteners, spacing
and pattern. Fit insulation tightly around penetrations. Fill voids larger than
" with insulation. Cover insulation with polyethylene separation layer before
installing roof membrane.

b.

Install the roof membrane according to the manufacturer's printed instruction

manual and detail. Fasten membrane to the substrate at the perimeter, at
upstands, and at penetrations.

c.

Complete sealing of all splices by the end of each workday. Care should be
exercised at the end of each workday that water does not flow beneath
completed sections of roofing systems.

d.

Install coated pipe seals and other coated accessories according to

manufacturer's manual and details.

e.

Install flashing and counterflashing as shown in the manufacturer's manual and

details and project drawings. All flashing is to be installed as roof membrane
installation progresses, to ensure that no water entry occurs at those points.

f.

Install protection layer on top of roof membrane. According to manufacturer's

manual.

g.

Install walkway tiles as shown on roof plan. Leave a 6 to 10 mm space

between tiles to allow for drainage.

h.
