The energy produced by wind turbines is booming. The economic interests of this type of
production are closely linked to the availability of equipment. Accordingly, the ability to plan the
maintenance of the equipment based on a reliable estimate of its health state, a so-called condition
monitoring, is a critical challenge for the future of this renewable energy.
The proposed subject is within this context, and particularly in the context of AStrion project,
which has been part of two recently completed European projects KAStron and SUPREME.
In order to monitor a running system and characterize its health, sensors are installed close to the
different critical components and output signals are collected over time. AStrion computes then a
full list of condition monitoring features, such as the energy of harmonic families or the density of
their modulation sidebands. These features are inhomogeneous and with different statistical
properties.
The objective of the post-doc study is to evaluate the interest of machine learning methods for the
classification of this large number of features. For example, a non-stationary feature will be the
signature of a failure in a component identified by the nature of this feature. Unsupervised learning
will be favored.
A substantial data base from GOTIX test bench of GIPSA-lab and from Arfons wind turbines of
KAStrion project will be available.
