Type of cooling coil:
X = Direct Expansion Coil
W = Chilled Water Coil
No. of rows for hot water coil
(1, 2 or 4 rows; 0 for nil)
No. of rows for cooling coil
(2, 3 or 4 rows)
General Features
The low static pressure fan coil units
manufacturerd by SKM have been designed
with the requirement of the Middle East market
foremost in consideration.
Fan coil units are ideally suited for installation
in chilled water or DX applications to meet air
conditioning requirements of individual rooms
throughout the year.
Increasingly, architects require a hidden
indoor unit with custom enclosure to match
the aesthetic requirements of the space.
The cooling medium can be refrigerant for
DX applications in :
-
small residences
apartment houses
small commercial establishments
mosques
Apartment Complexes
Office Blocks
Hospitals & Clinics
Shopping Malls & Centers
Airports
Hi-rise Buildings
Hotels & Motels
Commercial Developments
Schools & Colleges
Libraries
Component Features
Fan/Motor
The SKM fan coil units use centrifugal double
inlet double width low noise fans direct driven
by single phase, multi-speed permanent split
capacitor motor operating almost noiselessly
with permanent lubricated sleeve bearings.

Notes
Nominal capacity ratings are based on nominal air flow rate; air entering temperature DB/WB 80/67oF (26.5/19.4oC), 45F (7.2C) entering chilled
water temperature and 10oF (5.5oC) water temperature rise.
For conditions other than rated, use correction factors for total and sensible capacities.
For air flow rates other than nominal see correction factors.

Direct expansion capacity ratings based on nominal air flow rate, air entering temperature, 80/67 oF (26.7/19.4oC) DB/WB, 40oF (4.4oC)
evaporating temperature.
2.
Units with direct expansion coils should not be operated at low fan speeds. On specified models with "X" suffix, the low speed is factory
disabled.
3.
For different entering air conditions and/or evaporating temperature, use correction factors as in Charts 2 & 3.

How to use Chart 2
Plot a vertical line from design evaporating temp. until entering air WB temp. and read TCCF (total capacity correction factor),

and coil size to match. It is possible to obtain different unit size with or
without different coil depths to meet given design parameters.
Selection
Selection Considerations
In selecting low static fan coil units for a specific application the factors to
be considered should include:
-
Economy of layout
The correct unit with correct coil size is obtained only when required
cfm at defined speed; i.e. High, Medium or Low to meet sensible
load of the space is matched to the correct coil providing the required
sensible cooling or outlet temperature at given flow rate and design
temperature rise with the unit operating at functional sound levels.
To achieve this the engineer or designer must not only check aesthetic
needs but also space limitations, psychrometric feasibility, circulation and
ventilation, room acoustical effect, control system, piping accesses including
overall chilled water circuits and effect of diversity on same.
Selection Procedure
1.
2.
Apply correction factors to selected unit and find out the actual total
and sensible cooling capacity.
3.

3.
4.
Apply factors from Step 1 and Step 3 and multiply by nominal total
and sensible coolig capacities.
Actual total capacity
= 21.5 x 0.92 x 1.23 = 24.33 MBH
Actual sensible capacity = 15 x 0.91 x 1.26 = 17.2 MBH
To find capacity of selected unit at different speeds find the air flow rate
at different speeds and apply air delivery flow correction factor.

Table 10
The Sound Power Data tabulated in Table 10 is the sound power level data for low static fan coil
units. Using this data, the sound pressure level resulting from the fan coil units in an occupied
space can be determined in accordance with procedures established in ASHRAE std. 36-72 by
subtracting the room absorption effect from sound power level. Plot of the resulting sound
pressure values on an octave band NC curve Chart 5 determines the NC value for specified usage.
The NC level rating corresponds to the highest NC curve touched by the noise spectrum.
To arrive at a final sound level in dBA of the unit in the conditioned space, factors other than
room absorption effect should be taken into consideration like duct work, insulation,
grilles, etc.

Control System
Description
Control System Operation
CP-1:
Two pipe system with valve cycled - cooling
only.
Thermostat cycles an electric 2-way or 3-way
motorized valve. The fan runs continuously at
selected speed unless the switch is in the OFF
position.
CP-2:
Two pipe system with total electric heat
The thermostat opens an electric 2-way or 3way motorized valve on cooling coil or closes
the electric heating circuit for heating
depending on which is required to satisfy the
thermostat setting. The thermostat with 2
deg. C dead band between heating and cooling
prevents recycling.
When ordering Code CP-2 and the electric
heater option FEH, the auto high temperature
cut out is provided as standard.
CP-3:
Four pipe system with valve cycled
The thermostat automatically cycles 2 or 3way motorized hot and chilled water valves to
maintain desired room temperature. The
thermostat with 2-4C dead band prevents
valve re-cycling.
