Kampot is just a few kilometers
from the Gulf of Thailand, but in
this city its still a sleepy town, with
not a whole lot to do.

Cambodia is the country thats plentiful in natural

resources. But, because of the war country has left
behind in the one of the worlds poorest countries.
Millions of land mines are still hiding underground
around the country. And then many million of land
mines that were left from the war and it still hit the
people in the village that live around or people
around the countryside. Rural poverty can founded
everywhere in the country. There are many huge
problems that always affect in social and
economic in Cambodia. Increase of population is
the example of problem in Cambodia. The
population in Cambodia in 1960 is about 5 million
people but now its increase to more than 15 million
people. People in Cambodia lack in everything
such as food, water or education. People that
stayed rural poverty in Cambodia are always find
jobs for work, which are poorly paid. In Cambodia
average income is about 950 dollar per year, which
are very low.

Farmer, fisherman or landless people, these are the

example of Cambodias poor rural people. Women are
the one that most disadvantaged in Cambodia. Women
dont have equal to education, paid, job, or land owner.
These poorest people live in the place that close to
Thailand and Lao people. Most of the kid in Cambodian
was so tragic. They had to work at the morning all
thought the nighttime. They didnt get any chance or
opportunity to go to school because their parent didnt
have any money to pay for their uniform and book.
Therefore, many kid were literature, which means they
couldnt read or write. Because of they were literature,
education of Cambodia was interior.

So now well see what really happen in Cambodian

and what affect their life.

When we arrived in Cambodia, we chose a village in

Kampot, the city in countrysides province in
Cambodia. Kampot is just a few kilometers from the
Gulf of Thailand, but in this city its still a sleepy town,
with not a whole lot to do. This riverside town, with
streets by shop house or house with a French
architecture. Kampot main attraction is relaxing and
looking at riverside setting. For Kampots economy
they sell salt, paper, fishing and fruit.
Kampot is a small coastal town. And many villages
are quite far from social services or a main city. For
example, if something wrong with them, instead of
going to health clinic, people would dont care
about it and continue doing work. The problem is
now, Cambodia caused by diseases and bad health
care and the other thing that even worst is there
were about 50 doctor left in the country for 15 million
people. Or if they want to do anything in the main
city it is very difficult to travel and it would take a lot
of time to go.

When we arrived at small village, we went

to small haunt house after that we had
chance to share some experience
together. They told us that the chief of the
family is father who named Ronaldo and
they had a young mother who was died by
the serious disease.
They said, We want some help if there are
any god out there please help us
After a young mother was died (Pluem Ji).
Ronaldo or the chief of the family had to
responsible everything that Pluem Ji had
done. He was working harder to take care
all of member in the family.

They said that if they decide to buy

something, they had to think over and over
to buy one because of their money; they
werent rich. Every time they decide will
affect their sickness and healthy.
Fountunately, he decides to send one
member of the family to go aboard. Thats
guy was Di Maria. He went abroad when
he was young and he had to responsible to
send money back every month. They told
us that they had lived in Kaput for 6 month.
At the first 3-month, they was facing a
terrific situation. They had a little income
but had a high expense. Mossy family
decided to live in Corrugated metal house.
This house was low cost. Some of the kid
couldnt go to the school because their
guardian didnt have much money to buy
their uniform and stationary. Most of them
were malnutrition. At the last 3 month, it
was a pretty good life. They had a better
food and sanitary. Every kid was able to go
school. Fortunately, they were rich and
could buy something that was

One of the biggest and unbelievable problems was unequally in gender.

Most of the girl was literature and they werent able to read or write.
However, NGO (non-governmental organization) This organization was the
association that supported the Cambodian people whereby they
contributed to the other association. For example; they distribute the
donation thing or sanitary to Cambodian people and Cambodians
government also made a Micro-Financing Loan, double profit for women,
they wanted to fix the gender inequality problem. Therefore, every woman
in Cambodia will get a double profit and this event was effective and it
inclined to be better and better for Cambodian people.

Analysis
According to statistic and interview in Cambodia. Poverty
is a big problem in Cambodia, which mean that almost
everyone in this country is poor. These cause their life and
family very difficult to lives. Most of them dont have any
others way to chose. Everything that I had said about is
important in the study economic. Concept of choice is very
important for in real life that we learn to make the most
effective choice and learn how to spend money because if
you make a wrong choice and you dont have a second
chance you will lose a lot of money.
