MCD 5000 Deskset Description
Chapter 1
Description Overview
The MCD 5000 Deskset is a small-footprint radio dispatch console designed to satisfy the needs of
digital and analog radio users who require multiple dispatch points with enhanced talk/listen and interdispatcher intercom.
The MCD 5000 Deskset is the approximate size and shape of an office telephone set, with a
telephone-like handset that includes a PTT (Push to Talk) button. The handset microphone and
speaker become active when the handset is lifted from the housing base. The housing includes a builtin condenser microphone and an internal speaker.
Figure 1: MCD 5000 Deskset General View
An external desk paddle microphone or headset can be connected to the MCD 5000 Deskset. A
Headset Jack Box is used to connect a pair of prong plugs to interface the headset to an RJ-45 cable
connected to the headset Connector. An external footswitch can be connected to the MCD 5000
Deskset to enable hands free PTT and radio channel monitor ability.
The MCD 5000 Deskset supports the following features:
Perform intercom calls between all MCD 5000 Desksets connected to the same radio in the system

Operation And Maintenance Center Server (use only in systems with an OMC)
The OMC Server is a main management server in the MCD 5000 Deskset System. It is responsible
for the MCD 5000 Deskset System operation, maintenance, provisioning, and control. It is the
central repository, where all system users (administrators, technicians) and resources (MCD 5000,
and Radios) are registered, and where system-wide information (alarms, logs, audits) is stored. The
server runs on the Red Hat Linux operating system. The Administrator Control Panel (ACP) Client
PC provides a user level interface to the OMC. Because of its importance, the OMC Server can be
provided in a warm-standby redundant configuration.
Administrator Control Panel (ACP) Client Personal Computer (PC)
The ACP Client PC provides a user level interface to the OMC. It allows an administrator, located
locally to the OMC, or remotely anywhere on the customer WAN network to perform management
activities for the system. The ACP Client PC runs on the Microsoft Windows7 operating system.

Operational Cautions
CAUTION:
Operating personnel must not open the MCD 5000 Deskset. Component replacement must
be made by qualified maintenance personnel.
Do not connect the MCD 5000 Deskset to any exposed outdoor line or cable.
Before using, read all the instructions and cautionary markings on the unit.
To reduce the risk of damage to the wire or plug, pull by the plug rather than by the cable
when disconnecting the MCD 5000 Deskset Power supply from the power source outlet.
Do not operate the MCD 5000 Deskset with damaged cables or plugs. Replace them
immediately.
The MCD 5000 Deskset may become warm during operation, but not hot. If it becomes too
hot to touch, unplug the power cable of the MCD 5000 Deskset Power Supply from the AC
power outlet immediately and discontinue its use.
Do not connect unapproved devices to the unit. Connection of unapproved devices to the
unit may result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
Make sure that all wires and cables are located where they will not be stepped on, tripped
over, or subjected to damage or stress.
