Introduction

The Generic Man Machine Interface is an ESYS/CVBC Bus Master based user interface which can be connected to the
majority of ESYSes/CVBCs in order to display the actual status of the application and changing the basic setpoints and
parameters. This document describes the control philosophy and the functionality of the Generic MMI with Segments
(DSP49G2004, DSP49G2046).

2.0

General Description

DSP49G2004 and DSP49G2046 are a Generic Man Machine Interface with a LED segments Display for using it with a
S4965 CVBC or the Esys burner control families.
The display has three digits of LED 7segment displays, five LEDs and 7 buttons (A, B, C, D, E, F, G). These will be used
to navigate the MMI and to change temperature setpoints, set system variables and change controller parameters with a
2-level installer mode.

Figure 1. Front panel of Generic DSP49G2004 (or DSP49G2046)

There are external connections to connect an Outside Temperature Sensor, Water Pressure Sensor, 5V/24V Modulating
PWM pump and 230V Room Thermostat.
For communication purposes an OpenTherm Roomunit, a Personal Computer for installer diagnostics and a RF enable
device can be connected. The power supply can be done either by onboard power supply unit or by ESYS.
The MMI supports a back-wired design. This means all field wiring connections will be made at the backside of the MMI.

2.3.2

Outside Temperature Control

The MMI provides conversion of the Analog/Digital signal comming from sensor, resulting to the corresponding
temperature. This is done trough a special lookup table between the limits of 30 to + 70 degrees Celsius. This is the
standard used 8-bit lookup table.
The MMI calculates and uses a Control Temperature Setpoint for Central Heating when an Outside Temperature Sensor
is connected, NO OpenTherm communication is present and the S4965 CVBC/ESYS family stored OTC curve number is
NOT 0. The value of Control Setpoint is limited to the value of CH MAX Setpoint set by User/Serviceman.
If the OTC temperature becomes higher than 20 degrees, then the Control Setpoint is set to 10. (OTC curve number is
NOT 0)
For calculating this Control Temperature Setpoint, the following calculation is done:
Control Temp. Setpoint = OTC Offset + C1 *(20 Outside Temperature) / 4
Where:
C1 = derived from the OTC Curve number:

If OTC Curve number = 1..7 then C1 = OTC Curve number

If OTC Curve number = 8, then C1 = 9

If OTC Curve number = 9, then C1 = 12

If OTC Curve number = 10, then C1 = 18

The MMI read the OTC Curve number and OTC Offset parameters from the S4965 CVBC/ESYS family before the
calculation can be done. This reading is done with the S4965 CVBC/ESYS family master communication.
When OTC is connected, curve number is 0, OpenTherm device is disconnected and Room thermostat heat demand is
used,
then the OTC sensor is ignored, and CH MAX setpoint value is used.

2.3.3

Water Pressure Sensor

The MMI write the Analog/Digital conversion result to the S4965 CVBC/ESYS family. This writing is done with the S4965
CVBC/ESYS family master communication. Then MMI read the S4965 CVBC/ESYS familys calculated Water Pressure,
based on the written Analog/Digital conversion result. This reading is done with the S4965 CVBC/ESYS family master
communication.

Output device
2.3.4

PWM output

The MMI has a digital output at approximately 244 Hz on a Microprocessor PWM output for the Modulating (PWM) Pump.
A high level output will stop the Modulating Pump and a low level will run the Modulating Pump at maximum rate. The
pump will run at 50% of his maximum rate when the duty cycle of the Microprocessors PWM output at 244 Hz is also at
50% (50% high level and then 50% low level).

2.3.5

LED segment display and LEDs

The MMI has three digits of LED segment display and five LEDs to prompt status, values and controls on MMI.

Communications
2.3.6

S4965 CVBC/ESYS family Communication Requirements

The MMI is a master in the S4965 CVBC/ESYS family communication. This is the highest priority communication interface
for the MMI. The supported IDs (application layer) are listed in Appendix C Supported CVBC Message IDs. There are
four levels of communication priority for this. The Highest-level is communication loop that is continuously communicated.
A second-level message is communicated once every Highest-level communication loop was finished. A third-level
message is communicated once every second-level communication loop was finished. A fourth-level level message is
communicated once every third-level communication loop was finished. Some messages are communicated only at
startup; some are communicated on user demand.
The MMI uses the Microprocessors hardware USART at a speed of 19200 Baud, 8-bit Data, 1 start-bit en 1 stop-bit for
Transmit (Tx) and Receive (Rx) of serial data. Further specification for the protocol is done in the document External
Communication Class 1..6 [ERE2038.doc] located on the Honeywell NL05 intranet.

2.3.7

CVBC Bus Slave Communication Requirements

The MMI is a slave in the external CVBC Bus Communication. This will normally be used to connect master devices like a
Personal Computer through a PC CVBC Communication cable to the MMI. Also it can be used to access the connected
S4965 CVBC/ESYS family product via MMI. Therefore the MMI will function as a Bridge. The supported IDs (application
layer) are listed in Appendix D Supported External CVBC Message IDs, other send message will be send through the
Bridge to the connected S4965 CVBC/ESYS family product.
The MMI will be using a Software UART at a speed of 2400 Baud, 8-bit Data, 1 start-bit, 1 stop-bit for Receive (Rx) and
Transmit (Tx) of serial data. Further specification for the protocol is done in the document External Communication Class
1..6 [ERE2038.doc] located on the Honeywell NL05 intranet.

2.3.8

OpenTherm Communication Requirements

The MMI is a slave in the OpenTherm Communication. This is used to connect OpenTherm Master device for Remote
control of the MMI and connected S4965 CVBC/ESYS family products. The supported IDs (application layer) are listed in
Appendix E Supported OpenTherm Message IDs.
The MMI uses a Microprocessors falling and rising detection Interrupt pin for Receive (Rx) and a Microprocessors PWM
Timer output pin for Transmit (Tx). Further specification of the OpenTherm protocol is done in the document The
OpenTherm Communications Protocol Protocol Specification located on the Honeywell NL05 intranet.
When OpenTherm unit is connected, the following rules are followed to enter setpoint by MMI:
Due to Remote communication structure, when the user changes the setpoint on OT unit, the OT unit will write on MMI
the new values.
When the OpenTherm unit is connected, heat demand from the room thermostat is disabled.
The Control Setpoint temperature is limited by CH MAX setpoint.

* If ESYS S4965V2067 is connected to the MMI and if DHW sensor isnt connected, then the DHW mode is
disabled and Second CH demand is enabled. Parameter no.18 in the table above allow user to adjust Second
CH setpoint. If the Second CH demand is active, MMI indicated it in the same way as DHW mode and CH
temperature value is on the display.
** CH Maximum setpoint is adjusted via parameter no.19 if value of CH Maximum setpoint become lower than
CH setpoint or Second CH setpoint, then both of setpoints (CH setpoint, Second CH setpoint) are automatically
adjusted to value of CH Maximum setpoint.
