The Slocan Valley Community Legacy Society (SVCLS)

is ready for a busy 2017. This year the society will be distributing $12,000 from the Slocan Valley Legacy Fund,
with a maximum of $4000 per group. The Slocan Valley
Legacy Fund provides grants for qualified Slocan Valley
projects that are creative, value the diversity of our valley, translate problems into solutions, enrich interconnectedness and protect our natural environment. Grant

To help groups prepare a successful application the
SVCLS is hosting two workshops for charities and nonprofits in the Slocan Valley. Getting Grants by Building
Win-Win Partnerships will focus on how nonprofit societies can partner with registered charities to get grants
and how registered charities can increase their capacity
to undertake great projects by partnering with nonprofits.

This workshop will look at forming win-win relationships that can benefit both the nonprofit and the charity:
as with dating, there has to be a good match! Each workshop will also feature a panel discussion of folks from
local charities who will share best practices, what works
and what doesnt.
Finally, after the success of last years Volunteer Recognition event in Winlaw (with over 150 volunteers in attendance) SVCLS will be hosting a similar event in Silverton
on April 22 to honour folks who donate their time and
energy helping their communities thrive. Invitations will
be sent out to local nonprofits soon.

The 3rd annual Youth Arts Festival will see festival
programming expand to include events in both Nelson
and Trail! Talent Slam auditions will now take place in
both Nelson and Trail and selected acts will perform two
nights; one at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson and again at
The Bailey Theatre in Trail! Also new for this year, the
Backstage Lounge at Oxygen Art Centre will be developed into a small stage venue so everyone who auditions
will get an opportunity to perform during the festival!

We havent had this much fun on New Years Eve since

that time we convinced our uncle that $50/hr was the
going rate for NYE babysitters.
There was tobogganing with speeds reminiscent of the
Jamaican Bobsled Team and skiing under the lights all
with roasted marshmallows and hot chocolate waiting
at the bottom. And not that we ever wanted the party to
stop, but a fireworks show even New Yorks Time Square
would be jealous of concluded the evening for a great
family fun night.
As 2017 knocked on the door, Rafters Lounge was shaking
with eclectic dance moves, hot jams from DJ Soulman and
some boogie blues from Lil Dave and The Big Blue Wave.

6. A security of 15% will be kept by the Village until the project has been completed to the satisfaction of the project manager.
7. Contractor shall demolish structures to the satisfaction of the project manager.
8. The contractor shall make every effort to retain original plasterwork and form
and character aspects of the building where viable and cost-effective to do so.
9. Proposal submitted should identify a percentage estimate for contingencies.
TIMELINES: Work must be complete by May 30th 2017.
SITE VISIT/ INQUIRIES: A mandatory site visit must be scheduled with the project

Launched in 2014, the Amnesty International Book
Club recommends a new Canadian novel every two
months, with online features such interactive author interviews, podcast episodes, challenging discussion questions
and rich human rights backgrounds to the books topics.

Influenza can be particularly severe for some people
such as older adults, people with chronic health conditions and babies. If your symptoms are getting worse or
you are not recovering, call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 for
medical advice. This free service will connect you with
a healthcare professional who can provide advice about
how to manage your health concerns or those of your
loved ones. Alternatively, you may choose to call or visit
your doctor or go to a walk-in clinic.
If your symptoms become severe, go to the emergency
department of the nearest healthcare facility right away.

keep them from freezing shut. Plastic bags are a great way
to protect your mirrors and a dab of hand sanitizer on
your key or keyhole will melt ice.
4. Fight Corrosion From De-Icing Chemicals: Roads
are being treated with increasingly harsh de-icing chemicals that damage the exterior and eventually compromise
the structural integrity of your car. Rust protection from
Krown is able to withstand high humidity, constant exposure to corrosive road salt and abrasion from road dirt
and debris. Its also self-healing and is constantly creeping,
remaining active to continuously repel moisture and keep
it away from the metal surface.
5. Thrive If Stranded: Use kitty litter or floor mats to create traction for your tires if you get stuck. Keep a spare pair
of socks in your glove compartment to put on over your
