Art History Museum
You will design your own Art History Museum in the form of a portfolio. You will create a
portfolio of three of the most important works from each movement that we have studied. Thinkwhich artworks BEST represent each movement? They do not all have to be works that we
have studied, but you should include at least one that we have studied because you will have to
write about each work.
Your portfolio will be turned in either using a GOOGLE DOCS or GOOGLE SLIDES- whichever
you prefer to CLEARLY communicate the information. You M
UST share your project with me on
Google. bpicozzi@thompsonk12.org
To Begin:
1 You must include the following movements within your portfolio, chronologically:
- Cave Art
- Egyptian
- Greek
- Romantic
- Pop
- YOUR CHOICE- You must choose one additional movement that we did NOT learn
about already. Choose from the list below:
Indian/Chinese/Japanese (Eastern Arts)
Medieval/Byzantine
Impressionism
Fauvism
Cubism
Surrealism/Dada
Abstract Expressionism
2. For EACH movement (six) You must include the following information:
- Time period of the movement
- Description of each movement (basically, what was this movement about?) (1
paragraph)
- Context- Relation to history: How did this movement relate to what was going on in the
world at the time?
Characteristics of the artwork made during this movement (example: Pop Art- Bright
colors, Outlines, Simple shapes)
Images of 3 most important artworks of the movement with TITLE, ARTIST'S NAME,
MEDIUM and DATE CREATED (if available)
3. Choose ONE artwork from each movement (besides your choice) and describe why it
exemplifies the movement the best. Include any historical significance that makes your case
stronger. (1 paragraph)
Example: The Slave Ship by William Turner exemplifies Romanticism because the movement
was about emotions. Romantic Artists also used literature as their inspiration for the first time.
Turner actually read about the story of the slave ship before deciding to paint the story for the
public to see.
4. From your choice movement- choose 1 artwork that best exemplifies the movements and
write a formal Art Analysis on the artwork.
Grading:
You will be graded on this project according to the two rubrics attached. Your scores will be
combined to form your final project grade. D
O NOT LOSE THESE RUBRICS. You must hand in
your rubrics to receive a grade.
Your final exam will take place on:___________________
Your final exam grade will be an a
verage of your Exam grade and your Project.
*SENIORS who have a 90 average or better by ______ will be exempt from the test portion of
the exam only. You must submit your project (which will be entered as your exam grade) by
_______. Projects not handed in will receive a final exam grade of ZERO.
