on Tiananmen demolished in Vietnam
HONG KONG, June 8, 2009—Cardinal Joseph Zen says the Chinese government
should change its position regarding the force used 20 years ago to quell the democ-
racy demonstrations in Tiananmen Square.
The retired bishop of Hong Kong spoke about the anniversary of the June 3-4,
1989, uprising and massacre, saying, “I hope that [they] really consider seriously the
possibility of a reassessment of the verdict,” RTHK radio reported, informing on a
discourse given by the cardinal at Hong Kong’s Foreign Correspondents’ Club. “It
will not damage anyone, but would be to the advantage of the whole nation.”
The cardinal called for the investigation so that justice is done, not only for the
“consolation of the families,” but also for future generations “to discern between good
and bad,” and so that nothing similar happens again.
It is unclear how many hundred of protestors died when the Chinese military
stamped out the demonstration. The Communist authorities presented the slaying
as necessary to stop anti-government forces. (Zenit)

The lowering of the Lower House

TOO bad. But now it can be said. The Lower House of
Congress cannot be really so much lower in stature and
reputation before the People of the Philippines. House
Resolution 1109 stands not only as its big and clear formal
ignominy but shall also remain as its gross official disrepute
in the annals of its history.
Its much calculated yet obviously devious move in favor of
Charter Change via its solitary call as a Constituent Assembly,
only demonstrates its utter subservience to the Executive
Department—apparently for the right price. With such a
distinctly base and infamous resolve, the Upper House of
Congress en contra now appears standing way up there as
it possibly can.
For the record, it is just and proper to note that the
constituent members of the depressing talk-of-the town
portion of Philippine Congress are eminently known
and accordingly called as “Honorable representatives”,
viz., respected legislative delegates of the People of the
Philippines. However, during these particularly critical
times in the country it heightened, such distinct title and task
are legitimately questioned by definitely not few voices all
over the land. Needless to say, those whose integrity and
decency are suspect and shady are those who, as a downright
administration majority, surreptitiously approved the Con-
Ass resolution.
Questions: Are they really “Honorable” individuals for
precisely making a dishonorable self-serving Con-Ass
option? Are they truly “Representatives” of the people who
elected them into office, by representing instead the interest Illustration by Bladimer Usi

with Priests and for Priests’
Dear Priests,
The Year for Priests, announced by our beloved Pope Benedict XVI to celebrate the 150th
anniversary of the death of the saintly Curé of Ars, St. John Mary Vianney, is drawing near.
It will be inaugurated by the Holy Father on the 19th June, the feast of the Sacred Heart of
Jesus and the World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests. The announcement of
the Year for Priests has been very warmly received, especially amongst priests themselves.
Everyone wants to commit themselves with determination, sincerity and fervor so that it

Laging
nag-aaway sina Erning (Tonton Gutierrez) at Cleo (Glydel
at nabigyang halaga.
kuwento. Ang kanyang pagpapakita at pagdalaw ay pawang
walang sinisino at walang mensaheng nais iparating bukod
kabaha-bahala.
