Thin layer of gesso

painted over canvas with

existing painting of red
flowers in a vase.

Tore up old book pages,

ads, netural colored
decorative papers, and
pulled out some image
transfers I’d done previ-
ously.

Collaged the papers onto the
canvas with gel medium (under
and over). Used a pallette knife to
spread texture medium in some
spots on canvas. Stamped shapes
into the medium when partially dry
(this was NOT easy on a stretched
canvas: next time I’ll only do this
on a board).

Painted washes of primary yellow and burnt
sienna over various areas of the collage. The
color is not as pink as it looks here!

Added wash of cerulean to top half and wash of
quinacridone nickel azo gold to the bottom half.
Overlapped in the center and scribbed a bit of the
gold over parts of the cerulean, emphasizing the
textures.

Added squares of bright colors, al-
lowing layers underneath to show
through in places.

Final!

Added layers of opaque paints

and metallics. Rubbed colors into
and brushed them over texture
to emphasize it.

Plus layers of glossy gel medium

(white spots are where it is not
completely dry).
