With over seven thousand islands, the Philippines is gifted with the fifth longest coastline in the
world. We already know that a good share of these coasts are dotted with the most beautiful
beaches on earth. But what else do the coastlines have to offer?
Apart from fishing communities, coastal areas located in cities are often a great way to escape urban
life. Manila Bay, for all of its faults and garbage, is still one of the best places to catch a sunset.
Similarly, cities all over the Philippines have developed their own coastal esplanades.
What follows is a list of some of the most beautiful seaside developments in the country. Wed call all
of them bay walks, but theyre not all located in bays. Some, like the esplanade in Iloilo, are located
along rivers.

Danao City, Cebu

Not technically a bay walk, Danao City offers its citizens a chance to unwind beside the water in the
city plaza. Early morning joggers are treated to spectacular sunrise views.

Puerto Princesa, Palawan

The Puerto Princesa City Baywalk resembles the bay walk at Roxas Boulevard. There are plenty of
food stalls and seafood restaurants here. You can also rent bikes and ride around the area to
really enjoy the sea breeze.

Naga City, Cebu

Naga Citys seaside wasnt too interesting a few years ago. But recent developments have breathed
new life into this promenade. With new lights, seating areas, and establishments, it has now become
a destination for leisurely afternoons and evenings.

Balayan, Batangas

view of the sea.

Bislig City, Surgiao del Sur

Tourists and locals love hanging out at the Bislig bay walk, where they can grab some barbeque and
beer for cheap. Hagonoy Island can be easily be viewed from here. Although the water is muddy,
the bay is favored by wakeboarders.

Iloilo City, Iloilo

The Iloilo River Esplanade was designed by architect Paolo Alcazaren, who also designed the
Singapore quay and esplanade. Built along the Iloilo River in the Mandurriao District, the esplanade
was made for open-air dining, walking, and playing river-water sports.

Mati City, Davao Oriental

Tucked safely inside Pujada Bay in Davao Oriental, the Mati City Park and Bay Walk offers
refreshing water views and cool breezes. Unlike most other seaside promenades, the spot sill has
wide expanses of grass for family activities, sports, or picnics. Theres also a large I Love Mati sign
for photos.

Digos City, Davao Oriental

Situated along the coastline of Times Beach, the Aplaya bay walk boasts a breathtaking view of the
sunrise amid the vast Gulf of Davao that runners and cyclists frequently see. It also has attractions,
such as a replica of Michelangelos Statue of David and a mini-zoo.

Zamboanga City, Zamboanga

Located near the historic Fort Pilar, Paseo del Mar is one of the best nightlife spots in Zamboanga
City. Live bands usually perform at night, and the dancing fountain is an attraction that shouldnt be
missed.

Legazpi City, Albay

The Legazpi Boulevard in Albay offers a spectacular view of the Mayon Volacano and Kapuntukan
Hill. Though still under development, the bay walk is a great place to go longboarding, running, and
biking.

Before heading to Dapitan, it was said that Dr. Jose Rizal strolled along the lovely and serene shores
that is now named after him. Now, the boulevard is lined up with restaurants and food carts that

Manila
Of course, this list wouldnt be complete without Manila Baywalk along Roxas Boulevard. Its the
perfect place to spend the afternoon watching one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. The
bay walk is also a suitable birdwatching spot: Manila Bay is home to several species of migratory
birds.
