MAINTENANCE

Toensureoperatorsafetyandmaintainproductivity,aregularpressinspectionandmaintenanceprogramshouldbeemployed.
Thisprogramshouldmaintainrecordsofinspectionspreventativemaintenanceandrepairsforeachpress.Shouldyouhave
anyquestions,contactaKencoPressspecialistforassistance.
Onadailybasis:
Lubeflywheelbearings
Lubecrankshaftmainbearings
Lubeconnectingrodpinbearing
Lubebothrightandleftramguides
Luberamballsocketandtriplinkage
Inspectentirepressforanypossibleproblemareaincludingloosesafety
covers
Checkdragbrakeadjustments
Checkthedieareaiscleanandfreeofaccumulatedmaterial,rags,
chipsorscrap
Inspecttheconditionofpersonalprotectiveequipmentandmaterialhandlingtools
Oilfittingsareinstalledoneachmaincrankshaftbearing,ontheoutsidehuboftheflywheel,ontopoftheconnectingrod,and
oneachramguide.Eachoilpassagehasafeltoilwicktoretaintheoiloveraneight(8)hourperiod.Whenoiling,always
allowsufficienttimeforalloiltosaturatewick.
Onamonthlybasis:
Checktensionofthedrivebelt,readjustifnecessary
Inspectalltriplinkagecomponentsforwornormisalignedpartsreplaceimmediatelyanylinkagepartsshowingsignsof
wear
Inspectdragbrakeliningforwearreplaceshoesif1/16"liningorlessisremaining
Onasemiyearlybasis:
Adjustramguideclearance
Checkramballsocketfittoensurenoexcessiveplayexists
Tightenallboltsandnutsandgenerallyinspectpressforanylooseparts,crackedinsulationonwires,etc.
Removeflywheelcoverandflywheelcarefullyinspectallclutchcomponentsforwear

BrakeAdjustment
AfrontdampingbrakeisinstalledasstandardequipmentonallKompacpresses.
Adjustthebrakesothatthemarkontheconnectingrodisnearthecenterof
thereleasearea(seeillustrationfortheidealstoppingcondition).Ifthebrake
istootight,thecrankshaftwillstopprematurelyandbepartiallyengaged.
Thisisalsotrueifthereisheavydragontheramorthedieset.Ifthebrake
isadjustedtooloosely,thesameactionwilloccur,butinadifferentmanner
thecrankshaftwillcoastcompletelythroughthebacksideofthecamand
whiplashintopartialengagement.Thisconditionmustbecorrectedasitwill
prematurelydamagetheclutchparts.Thebrakeisbestadjustedafterthe
installationofanydiesandtoolingduetotheaddedmass.

RollerClutchAssembly
TherollerclutchontheKompacpressesarepackedinrollerbearinglubricantatthefactory.Unlessgreasesealsarebroken
NOlubricationisrequiredfortwoyears(4,000hours.).
a.Toremoverollerclutchfromthepress,removesetscrewsfromoutsidethrustcollar,removeoutsidethrustcollar,
retainingfelt,flywheelassemblyandrollerclutchcage.(Therollerclutchactuatingspringisreleasedbyremovingthe
rollerclutchcage.)
b.Removesetscrewsholdingtherollerclutchcamandpressthecrankshaftthroughthequilltowardsthefront.
c.Removethequillrollerbearings,race,androllerclutchpartsfromtheflywheelassemblyandthecrankshaft.
d.Carefullyinspectandreplaceanywornparts.Paycloseattentiontotherollerclutchcamwhichmayhaveanindentation
inthecamatthepointwhererollerscomeincontact.Ifthereisanindentationof.001".002",thecamshouldbe
replaced.
e.PacktheQuillrollerbearingswith#3rollerbearinggrease,workingthegreasearoundtherollerswithinthequill
bearings.
f.Replaceallretainingfeltsafterthefeltshavebeensaturatedwithoil.Thiswillpreventthefeltsfromabsorbingthe
greasefromthequillbearings.
g.Reassemblethecamontothecrankshafttoavoidbendingthecrankshaft,presscamsquarelyandevenly.
h.Therollerclutchassemblyisnowreadyforanothertwoyearsofservice.
CAUTION:Preventanyoilorgreasefromenteringtherollerclutcharea.Contaminationwillcausemalfunctionwithintheroller
clutchandseriousdamagemaybeincurred.Theoiledfeltwickwillprovidesufficientlubricationfortheclutchdriverollers.
