This Unit is designed for students with no previous diving qualifications. It provides an introductory, basic diving unit
to attain a PADI Open Water diving certificate. Building on these skills the unit then teaches film and photography
students the theory and practice of underwater film production and photography, a growth area and one that offers
career opportunities. The programme will provide them with an appreciation of the differences and complexities of
working within the underwater environment and the opportunity to put new found skills and ideas into practice.
AIMS
1. To teach students the foundational knowledge and skills they need to dive using open circuit self contained
underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA), with a buddy and independent of supervision.
2. To ensure students are capable of organising, planning and conducting no-decompression diving activities within
their level of experience.
3. To introduce film and photography students to the theory and practice of working underwater.

5. Use decompression tables and procedures for no decompression diving correctly.
6. Describe and explain the main features of HSE legislation, Risk Assessment, Project Reports and the conduct of a
diving project, within the Media Approved Codes of Practice.

This will be updated regularly with unit information, resources and behind the scenes photos
and films from students on the unit.
A blog simply lets you post stories, research, key information about your journey on this unit.
At the end of the unit you have to present a film or photographic portfolio. You are required
to use the blog to document this. Your ideas, processes and work in progress.
A blog allows you to upload photos, sound, videos and some of the options below also
work via mobile. You can also create pages to separate your work into e.g. Research |
Development | Dives | Final Film or Photographs
