The Yishun Community Hospital will provide an acute health facility appropriate for 428 beds, with in-built capacity for future expansion through adaptable design features and construction processes. One of the main objectives of the proposed hospital is to promote innovation in health delivery, education, and training though a facility that embraces national and international health care best practice. Yishun Community Hospital will provide health care facilities in Sub Acute and Rehabilitation Care that are planned to maximise patient access to views of the surrounding landscape, especially the Yishun Pond. The hospital has been planned in modules that are generally linked by a central green atrium. The central street is a signature of social, interactive and collaborative space. This new proposed Yishun Community Hospital redevelopment will generate exciting activity, vibrancy and provide crucial linkages to other activities and features of the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. This development will be both complimentary to the existing hospital, yet retain its own distinct identity. High quality open space is provided in strategic locations and to accommodate recreation, respite and relaxation for patients, staff and visitors to escape the clinical environment. Affectionately known as the Rainforest Trail, there is abundant greenery around the site, this is guided by the principles of green healing.
