Today is the death anniversary of Pakistanis legendary lm actor, producer and script writer. Waheed Murad, he is the greatest screen legend
of Pakistani cinema
He is well-known for his charming expressions, tender voice and unusual talent for acting in lms. His romantic style of acting made him
popular as well as controversial. One of his block buster lms is Armaan, which was produced by him, made essential impact on the subcontinental lm industry. Waheed was the rst Rock n Roll dancing star in South Asia.
He was famously known as the 'Chocolate Hero' and 'Lady Killer'. His dressing style, the hair style, dialogues and songs used to be liked and
followed by people. Pakistans government awarded him with Sitara-e-Imtiaz, the third highest honor and civilian award by the State of
Pakistan.
Murad produced eleven lms under his fathers established Film Art. He was the youngest lm producer in the industry at that time. Most of
his produced lms were either Golden Jubilee or Silver Jubilee. During the 1960s and early 1970s, he produced lms like Insaan badalta hai
(1961) (his rst lm as producer), Armaan (1966), Ehsaan (1967), Naseeb apna apna (1970) and Mastana mahi (Punjabi lm of 1971).
However, after Mastana Mahi he produced no lm except Hero which was produced in the 1980s and was released after his death.
Murads acting style has the legacy of being taught in Indian and Pakistani lm institutions. He is considered as one of the pioneering Rock n
Roll stars of Pakistan. His fans term him as the cultural icon of the Pakistani Film Industry.
