Welcome! This course is one that explores humanitys
journey through time. The purpose of this course is to give
you a better understanding of what various civilizations and
cultures went through and how we ended up where we are
today. Were going to go from the birth of civilization to the
beginning of the Renaissance.
These are some of the topics we will be covering. Additional
topics may be determined by student interest.

Evaluation:
Discussion Leader: 15%
Discussion Participation: 10%

Workload:
It is expected that you hand in your assignments on the date
it is due. (We will discuss this in class.) Please come and see
me or email me if you have any issues regarding handing in
your work on time. **Check in on late policy**

Discussion Leader: 15%


In 2s or 3s, you are going to lead a class wide
discussion, on a Friday, about a specific topic. You will get
together with your group and find a YouTube video, an article
online, a newspaper article, a chapter from the textbook etc.
that can be shared with the class so everyone has
access to it. The class will then watch/read whatever you
have chosen and be ready to participate in this discussion.
You must submit your discussion piece to me by the Monday
before you discuss. Pre renaissance. Have topics they can
choose from.
Discussion Participation: 10%
Over the course of the semester you will be
participating in a class wide discussion on Fridays. In order
for you to get full marks you must show up to class ready to
give input and participate in a respectful and thoughtful
manner. You will be given a mark out of 3.
0= Did not show up to class
1= Showed up to class but did not contribute to the
discussion
2= Showed up to class and minimally contributed to the
discussion
3= Showed up to class and contributed several
thoughts/ideas about the topic being discussed
Homework: 15%
Over this semester you will be given worksheets to fill
out and hand into me. The due dates will be set as the
semester goes along. We will also be using the app KAHOOT.
Religion Assignment: 15%
In groups of 2 you will present on a world religion of
your choosing and present it to the class for 15 minutes.

due date.)
Time Travel Assignment: 15%
In groups of 5, you are planning a 5 day tour around the
world. Presentations will be 10 minutes long. (More details
are on the handout I will give you closer to the due date.)
**DONT RESEARCH. WHAT DO YOU CURRENTLY KNOW AND
WHAT YOU ARE INTERESTED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT.
INTRODUCTORY ASSIGNMENT. THIS COURSE DOES NOT HAVE
A FIXED PATH. DO NOT RESEARCH- MARKS WILL BE BASED
ON COMPLETION. DOESNT HAVE TO BE 100% ACCURATE.
THEME MUST BE PRESENT IN EACH CIVILIZATION.
Research Essay: 15%
Individually, you will choose three weapons from the
past and write a 500 word (2 page) research paper on this
topic. (More details are on the handout I will give you closer
to the due date.)
