1. Explain the significant contribution of the following people to the Industrial Engineering

2. Compare and contrast Industrial Engineering and your course.

3. Define Industrial Engineering in your own words.

4. Give an example of a real-life system (registration system and body systems like digestive,
nervous and the like cannot be given as answers here). Identify its parts, the relationships and
interactions among the parts and the systems goal.

5. Problem Analysis:
a. Choose 1 topic from the list below:
- high incidence of road accidents in Commonwealth Avenue
- customer complaints in fast food restaurants
- high failing rate in Engineering Science courses of UP Diliman
- supply-demand mismatch for General Education courses in UP Diliman
- poverty in the Philippines
- corruption in the Philippine government
- slow discharge process in hospitals
b. Define a specific problem for the topic you have chosen. Do research as necessary
(especially on the metrics and data/statistics that you might need to assess the problems
severity and impact).
c. Construct a comprehensive Ishikawa Diagram for the problem you identified and provide
a 1- to 3-paragraph discussion and analysis.

6. Think of a product that you use everyday and research how it is being made. From the process
that you were able to get, construct an operation process chart or a flow process chart.

7. Draw the Pareto chart for the defects in Company Xs products. What information can you infer
based on the Pareto chart? How will you address the problem on high defect rate?

8. From the file HAL_Circuitize.pdf, a description of processes and the facility layout is given. Based
on the discussion of processes and the given layout, construct the flow diagram/geographic
flowchart. Evaluate the current facility layout.

9. ABC, Inc. produces handicraft items for export. At present, they are producing bags made from
woven newspapers and yellow pages since this has a large demand abroad. They are currently
employing 20 full time workers (working at 7.5 hours per day, paid Php 50.00 per hour) and 10
part-time workers (working 10 hours per week (4 weeks per month), paid Php 40.00 per hour).
This workforce is Data for the companys production and expenses for the past 3 months are
indicated in the table below.
