VOICEOVER: Pst! Hey! You! Yes you! Come here!

Are you open-minded? --- Noooo come back

this is not a scam! Are you a hard working student who
wants to do innovations? Do you like experimenting? Do
you want to help in the development of your country? Do
you want to change the world? Well I just have the right
thing for you. Come on!

---- JUMP TO SCENE ON SEASIDE ----

(BRIEF INTRODUCTION)
VOICEOVER: Did you know that the Philippines is one of
the top producers of seaweeds and aquatic plants in the
world? (WOW!) Seaweeds are among the abundant
aquatic resources which serve as the third most important
fishery export of the country.
One of the abundant seaweed species found
here in the Philippine waters is SARGASSUM (THROWS
SARGASSUM). It is locally known as sapo: or kulapo
and can reproduce 2 3 times its volume within 45 days!
(AMAZING!)
Oftentimes, SARGASSUM is washed ashore
after storms or just by big waves and are left to
decompose along the coastline producing a foul smell
caused by the evolution of hydrogen sulfide gas.
(PUTREFACTION!) Once inhaled, it may cause irritation in
the eyes and in the respiratory system. (OH NO!)
Fortunately, SARGASSUM contains 65.5%
cellulose that makes it possible to transform SARGASSUM
into MANY PLATFORM CHEMICALS! (Positivity!) One of the
chemical it can be transformed into is SUCCINIC ACID
(Whats that?!).
SUCCINIC ACID, commonly made from
petroleum, is a white and odorless solid that is generally
used in resins, coatings, pigments and even in
pharmaceuticals (WOW!). It is also a platform chemical for
the synthesis of MULTITUDE OF COMPOUNDS such as
ACRYLATES and POLYESTER POLYOLS.

(PURPOSE OF STUDY)
VOICEOVER: SUCCINIC ACID is expected to have a
compound annual growth rate of 22.6% by volume in the
global market. With the diminishing supplies in petroleum
resources and the dangers of carbon dioxide emissions,
the conventional way of producing succinic acid will not
be sustainable to meet its growing demand.
So, the underutilized and foul-smelling
SARGASSUM can be used to synthesize SUCCINIC ACID.
And our target is to produce SUCCINIC ACID from
SARGASSUM that will conform to the standard and
existing properties.

(SIGNIFICANCE: TARGET BENEFICIARY)

VOICEOVER: With that, you are now ready to change the
world!
--- JUMP SCENE TO SEASIDE ---
You can help the community bothered by the
foul smelling sargassum and provide possible sources of
income (HELPFUL!)

--- JUMP SCENE TO SOMEWHERE LOOKING LIKE A LAB OR

SCHOOL)
And you can now be as smart as your
colleagues and give them an idea on using underutilized
resources such as SARGASSUM for further study.
(BRAINY!)

(EXPERIMENT WITH RESULTS AND DISCUSSION)

VOICEOVER: Now how can we turn SARGASSUM into
SUCCINIC ACID? Heres how it works!
--- EXPERIMENTAL VIDEO ---

(CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION)

VOICEOVER: Now you know, with the right parameters,
you can really transform SARGASSUM into SUCCINIC ACID!
(AMAZING!)
Now tell your friends, suggest to them to try
other biomass feedstocks rich in cellulose. Also, tell them
to consider other experimental factors such as the use of
solid catalysts and other oxidizing agents, pressure
application, stirring speed and others which can influence
the yield of the process.

VOICEOVER; So young man get up and change your

nation! The key to the development of our nation is in
your hands!
