TESTING AND INSPECTION INTERVALS TABLE 4 NOTES:

1 The actual sub-environment in which the equipment is located determines the row for the environment
to be used in Table 4. e.g. A computer in a non-hostile environment in an office within a factory would
attract a test/inspection action in accordance with Row 3.

2 Regulatory authorities, other Standards, workplace safety requirements or manufacturers

instructions may specify intervals appropriate to particular industries or specific types of
equipment.
3 RCDs in transportable equipment shall be regarded as portable RCDs

WAVECOM WinPATS CE / WinPATS lite

NESCO brings to you and your company a new level of convenience
and portability in mobile data collection. In conjunction with Wavecom
Instruments we have combined many compact computing technologies
to provide you with revolutionary methods of improving productivity
and profitability.

The TNT T and TNT+ introduced a new level of simplicity and

functionality to the field of appliance testing and now with the
latest G2 (second generation) testers these units can be interfaced
with both a standard PC using WinPATS lite & with a PDA (PocketPC)
using WinPATS CE.

If the PDA (Pocket PC) is also fitted with a barcode scanner, the entire
testing process can be virtually completely automated with no operator
data input required.

Simple steps are

1. Scan in barcode and appliance details

2. Plug appliance into to test, scan OK on the PDA and let

the tester do the rest.

3. The test results are stored into the Pocket PC.

Once the days/weeks work is done synchronise the pocket PC

with WinPATS lite on your desk top or laptop and the database
is then automatically entered and updated. All you need to do
then is print your reports.

WinPATS CE E controls the TNT / TNT+ and stores the results obtained
and with the functionality of a PocketPC, all other relevant data can
be entered directly into the application rather than manual notes
Catalogue No. WinPATS CE
having to be used for entry later into a database.

WinPATS lite is the main database which provides the full record
keeping and reporting functions and can be updated either manually,
from WinPATS CE (via a PocketPC with appropriate synchronisation
software) or from any data storage type PAT unit such as the MicroPAT+.

Complete packages including PDAs can be supplied, please contact

NESCO sales for details.

and AS/NZS 3012 which provide guidelines for testing and should be
taken as minimum requirements for this work as these documents are
generally referred to in the relevant legislation in each of the states.

Overview Of Systems
The TNT, TNT+ and the MicroPat+ can be used as stand alone testers
or they can be part of powerful intergrated systems. These are flexible
and scaleable packages utilising modern technologies to provide
efficient and error free data entry and testing. With systems to suit
virtually every business, no matter how large or small.

1021 SER Barcode Scanner

The introduction of barcode scanners are making the task even easier
by allowing an appliance ID number to be allocated to a single item
and a barcode label or tag applied to assist with fast and accurate
data input.

Using barcodes and integrating the safety testing process with an

ongoing asset management regime assists in giving the customers
traceability on their plant and equipment. This code gives reference to
the item when downloaded to the Software program by assigning an
Portable appliance ID to the item it gives provision to trace this item through
Appliances MicroPAT+ site and location within site.

Micro PAT+
This unit performs insulation and continuity tests along with a run
test, leakage test and finally a flash test. This unit performs class I,
Extension class II tests as well as extension leads and can be downloaded to
Leads a PC. This unit differs from the TNT series in that the results from up
to 1000 tests can be stored in memory for download at a later date.
This is particularly useful if the customer is constantly moving around
a site testing equipment.

WinPATS is designed for use with the Micro PAT+ . This allows the
user to capture test results from these units and assign sites, locations
within sites, asset numbers if needed as well as giving the provision
of managing and reporting on individual appliances regarding test
history fault levels and specifications. There is also the provision for
Printer reporting and certificate issue through this software.

TNT
The TNT is capable of testing insulation, earth bond and displaying the
actual test result. Polarity and mains supply connections are indicated
Portable by l.e.d.s. This unit is capable of testing class I, class II, appliances and
Appliances
also comes with an adaptor for extension leads. The unit gives an
actual test result as well as a pass/fail indication on screen and has
the facility to communicate with a PC.

TNT TNT+
The TNT+ performs the same functions as the TNT but with the added
Extension Leads advantages of being able to test and record RCD trip current and time,
as well as load testing incorporating leakage current, load current,
voltage, power factor and power in watts. As with the TNT this unit
also provides the capability of downloading test results to a PC.

Calibration
Calibration of test eqipment is the only means of establishing and proving that measurements obtained using that
equipment are correct. This does not mean that un-calibrated test equipment is inaccurate but without any proof
of an instruments accuracy, there is no way to confirm that readings taken are in fact correct.

The process of having equipment calibrated is primarily to confirm that the equipment concerned is accurate
within the manufacturers specifications and establishes taceability to known standsards by using commensurately
higher spcification equipment to test against, all of which of course has its own calibration to confirm its status.
Traceability is established only with correct certification and effectively compares individual items against national
and international standards.

NESCO is able to offer traceable calibration certificates with virtually all instruments sold, please consult with
our sales department for additional information.

Remote Control Typical Applications

General Description
The Nesco and Electromate remote control product ranges are basic
wireless switching systems used to operate almost anything.

Lights, gates, security systems, pumps, in fact any device that can be
switched on or off through an electrical circuit can be switched remotely.
Through walls, across paddocks, over car parks, use it where running a
switch wire is impractical or impossible.

With over one million units sold world wide, these systems are well
proven, economical and reliable.

System Requirements Security Monitoring

All systems comprise of two main components, a transmitter (Tx), which
transmits a coded radio signal, and a receiver (Rx), which receives the
coded signal and switches an output. The output is usually a relay that
becomes the actual switch in the circuit.

Most transmitters are battery powered, hand held units with 1, 2, 4 or 8

pushbuttons while the receivers are hard wired and permanently mounted
printed circuit cards and generally located in close proximity to the load
being switched.

Also available are a range of accessories such as antenna, low voltage

power supplies, enclosures and mounting bases.

The most basic system must consist of at least one transmitter and one
receiver. The actual components selected will be determined by the
Pump Control
application. Always consult with a Nesco sales consultant if in doubt with
your selected application.

Application Notes
All distances are quoted as line of sight. Although these units will operate
out of sight of each other, they are more effective and reliable when in
visual contact. Receivers must not be mounted near equipment that emits
radio interference, machinery such as variable frequency controllers, DC
motors and controllers, transformers, magnets etc. When using in an
industrial application, always chose a clean circuit to wire the receiver
into. Do not leave transmitters near equipment containing induction coils
such as stereo speakers as this will de-tune the transmitter.

Never use this type of remote control switching device on life endangering
equipment such as overhead cranes, hoists and conveyor belts. There is Industrial Monitoring & Control
specialist equipment designed for these applications.

NESCO FM Series
First generation remote equipment. Operates on 27MHz with a 12 way
digital decoding footprint. Coding system is user-operated dipswitches on
both the transmitter and receiver. To enable a transmitter to talk to a
receiver the dipswitches in the transmitter must be in identical positions
to the dip switches on the receiver. At least one third of the dipswitches
should be in the on position.

A 27MHz antenna is generally required for successful switching, however FMT PET
in ideal conditions or over short distances a piece of building wire 500mm
long may be sufficient. Maximum transmission time of all fixed
transmitters is 5 minutes.

more reliable in poor reception areas. The transmitters are physically
smaller and designed for easy use. The receivers offer more user
programmable options.

selectable. The GLR 2701 and GLR 240 have seven different modes to
select from. A series of 4 dipswitches in the centre of the card allow
the user to select from momentary, latching, delayed off, pulsing and
flip flop modes.

The GLR 2702 and GLR 2704 have two dipswitches allowing the user
to select momentary, latching or flip flop modes for all channels.

Full instructions on programming are included with every Gigalink

receiver purchased.

ATMI Float Switches

Float switches are designed to control fluid level by switching a set of
contacts when the level either rises or falls. Each individual application
will determine the model of float switch required.

To simplify the application criteria, Nesco has reduced the possibilities

to only two models.

The AT 920 series is designed for applications like sump pumps, water storage
tanks and clean dams. They do not operate effecively in fluids which are fast
flowing, turbulent, or have large amounts of suspended solids.

The MR 76 series is designed for industrial applications. It can be used in

fluids containing a large percentage of suspended solids. They are also very
good in acidic or alkaline situations such as sewerage or industrial waste.

All float switches supplied by Nesco Conwell have a double throw

mechanism. This means they can be used for either filling or emptying
purposes. Both models are available in 5, 10 and 20 metre cable lengths.

CRITEC Surge Protection
The CRITEC range of surge protection products is widely recognised in Australia as providing a premium level of
protection. All the listed products are designed for use on the Australian 240V single phase or 415V three phase AC
power system, and provide both hard wired and point of use plug-in protection. They all feature excellent transient
clamping, and feature safe disconnection mechanisms at their end of life, with a visual indication given in this
circumstance.

Hard Wired Solutions

The hard wired protection products come packaged as convenient Din-rail mountable protectors, matching the style of
common circuit breakers. They are economically priced, and are available in three surge ratings: 10kA, 40kA, and 100kA
(8/20us surge impulse). The required surge rating for a particular application depends on where the protector is to be
installed. The 10kA protector should only be installed at sub-panels within a building. The 40kA protector is suitable for
point of entry installation for buildings in a relatively low lightning activity area or a low-lying building in a built up
area. It may also be used in a sub-panel for high lightning areas. Buildings in high lightning areas, or that are in exposed
locations, should have 100kA protectors installed at their point of entry main panels. Also, the higher the surge rating,
the longer the likely lifetime of the product, with the 100kA surge rating being a wise choice where long life is an
important consideration.

If the protectors are being installed in the panel where the Neutral to Earth link is, then one protector should be
provided from each phase conductor to neutral (i.e. one protector is required for single phase, and three protectors are
required for three phase). If they are being installed in a panel without the N-E link (e.g. a sub-panel), then an extra
protector should be provided from N-E.

With the exception of the high energy 100kA product, the protectors feature replaceable modules. This allows a failed
protector to be replaced without disturbing the wiring. In addition, the DSD1401SR275 product features alarm contacts.
These provide a changeover contact set, that allows remote monitoring of the protector status.

CRITEC
Plug-in Protection
These Power Line Filters are used to provide the final stage of surge protection to electrical and electronic equipment
that connects via an AC power plug. The effectiveness of this simple-to-install protection is assured by virtue of it being
installed close to the equipment to be protected. The product is not the cheapest available, but it does offer excellent
surge ratings combined with series filtering.

The product provides a very solid 20kA surge rating in each of the three modes possible at an outlet (L-N, L-E, and N-E).
The protection in each of these modes uses MOVs in combination with robust thermal disconnects to provide increased
safety of the product.

In addition to the regular shunt protection that is used to divert the surge current to earth, this protector features series
filtering. This filtering further reduces the transient voltage getting through to the equipment, but also slows down the
rate of rise of that voltage, further protecting the equipment.

User convenience is built into this product, with LEDs indicating correct product operation, and mounting flanges
allowing wall mounting if required.

Where the equipment being protected has a telephone connection, it is very important that transient protection is
provided for both the AC power connection and the telephone connection. The PLFA2 RJ11 products provides this
combined protection. The telephone circuitry is approved and complies with ACA requirements. The telephone circuitry
is protected to the same rugged 20kA level as the AC power circuit. As well as a rugged gas arrester, the circuitry
features a solid state thyristor to provide instantaneous clamping of telephone line surges to low values, and
automatically resetting solid state fuses in series with each wire to provide overcurrent protection.

Cable Jointing Pits & Lids

The range of plastic cable jointing pits are used in conjunction with concrete or steel covers to house, protect and give
ready access to power and communications cables at underground jointing locations. They offer many advantages over
traditional fibre reinforced cement pits and a much greater life expectancy. The pits are light in weight and can be easily
transported and stored. Installation is easy with no special tools being required. The design embodies special ribbing for
on site strength and stability. The pits are extendable.

Bus-Bar Insulators
Material
Stand off insulators are moulded from, recognised flame resistant fibreglass
reinforced polyester compound. They feature shatter resistance and height
tolerance closer than commonly available in porcelain insulators. Moisture
and heat resistance of insulators is higher than conventional plastic insulators.

Cantilever Strength
One end of the insulator is bolted to a flat plate and a force is applied to the
insert on the other end in a direction parallel to the end at a distance from the SM51
plate equal to the insulators height.
SM76
NOTE: the voltage rating is only meant to be a guide for indoor service. Insulators SM35
mounted within a suitable electrical cabinet are considered indoors even though
the cabinet is outdoors. An insulator will withstand its rated voltage continuously
but industry standards or other specifications may require a different spacing
from conductors of ground for a particular voltage. Wet or dirty conditions may
require derating an insulator.

Uniseal Jointing Compounds

For Aluminium and Copper Jointing
Electropars jointing compounds are formulated to improve jointing conductivity and
inhibit oxidation and corrosion between jointing contact areas. Jointing compound
should always be applied to the contact surfaces of all aluminium, aluminium to
copper and copper to copper connections prior to compression or bolting.

EP Uniseal (Grey, 350gm tube)

EP Uniseal consists of a lithium based 180C stable grease and zinc particles.
The base grease prevents water and contaminants interfering with the connection
and prevents the formation of surface oxides. The zinc particles work to break down
existing oxide on the conducting surfaces when those surfaces are brought together
under pressure. EP Uniseal is ideal for aluminium to aluminium and aluminium to
copper and copper to copper compression or bolted joints.
