Brag Sheet

1. What do you plan to study as a college major and why?

What experience do you have which will help you
prepare for that major?
I want to graduate college with a Masters in Civil
Engineering with a minor degree in Architecture. This
career would allow me to have a use of my creativeness.
Such as, designing and constructing new structures based
on my ideas. As a GEOTECH student, I have taken classes
related to my major, such as, Intro to Design where I
learned the engineering drawing techniques, and Civil
Engineering and Architecture which teaches the main
concepts of Civil Engineering and major projects are
included within the course. Both of these courses are
college courses, which give community college credit.

2. What course was the most challenging for you over the
past three years? How did you grow from this
experience?
The most challenging course over the past three years has
been AP Physics because reading, keeping up with the math,
and the conceptual theories was hard. Physics itself is not
just simply math but a whole concept of the world and how
many objects function. I learned many new things that I
wasnt aware of and concepts of how our daily lives are
influenced by the theories of Physics.

3. Have you taken any additional classes outside of school

that are not on your transcript? If so, please list the
class, school attended, and grades.
N/A

4. Pick three original adjectives that you believe would

best describe who you are? Then explain why you
selected them.
a. Ambitious: I am a person that eagerly desires to
achieve success and earn my goals. I am always
looking forward for my future.
b. Cooperative/Service: One of my passions is to serve
the community. I enjoy working together with others
to help a purpose.
c. Diligent: I believe in myself as someone who puts all
effort when it comes to accomplishing a goal.

5. What event or activity (positive or negative) has had the

most significant impact on you in your life and shaped
you as a person? Why?
As a member of the LEO Club, I have the opportunity to
serve others, such as collecting school supplies. These supplies
are send down to Mexico, and I have had the opportunity to visit
very poor schools in Mexico and see how the kids live in a poor
environment yet have more happiness than many of us. This
activities has made me appreciate my life and how blessed I am
to have an education, a clean environment, school supplies,
electricity, or even a good built school. It opens my eyes to
know that the struggle I go through is nothing and all the
opportunities I had are one in a lifetime.

6. Please share one leadership role you have held during

high school and describe how it has shaped who you are
as a person.
Battalion Commander at the JROTC program. This has shaped
me as a person because it has broken my egg shell from my
comfort zone. I grew being a person who never wanted to talk
or participate. However, feeling the amazement of knowing that
I am a leader and I am in charge of about 150 students has
make me feel better about myself. I had been qualified to
represent and make the battalion better. Allowing me to change
my mindset in leading others; this simple change has taken me
out of my comfort zone. I have changed my views in how I
wanted things to work and had to accomplish them when the
date was set; the new role has set many hardships when it
comes to dealing with my academics, but it has allowed me to
learn how to manage myself and others. Setting myself in this
picture is an accomplishment that has not only prove to me that
I am capable of being superior but that it is possible to gain
what you have worked for.

7. Please describe any academic or personal barriers and

how you have overcome them. How have they interfered
with your academic performance?
A personal barrier is having the lack of parental support in
my academics. Yes, they always say go for the best and you are
doing well, however, I feel that they could do more but are not
able to. My parents do not speak English or know anything
about the common core standards. They didnt graduate high
school, or receive any education higher than 8th grade in
Mexico. So, when I go home and do my homework, there is no
one to support me. Also, they dont understand all of the work
that teachers give out which makes me mad because they feel
that school is as easy as it used to be for them.

8. Is there any additional information you would like your

colleges to know about you that you will not be able to
share in your application?
I feel that colleges should know that I have been put down
when it comes to my education by my family. This has helped
me grow and mature faster because all the barriers or
opportunities that I had were due to my effort. Sometimes,
when it comes to support it is hard for me to find. Like in really
small things, such as, receiving a ride to a school event or
having money to pay for school supplies.

9. **What would you want the admissions office to know

that they could not learn from your school records or
application? Possible topics may include greatest
strengths, most unique characteristics, significant family
events, personal obstacles, and how you cope and
overcome challenges.
1. Problem solving person, I definitely like to get all of
my stuff done and do not like to lag.
2. Father was deported during freshman year.
3. Overcome any obstacle no matter what. I have had
a lot of incidents where my education was in play.
Such as my father wanting me to stay in Mexico and
work rather than studying, because he said that it
really didnt matter if I went to school or not.

10. **Please explain any extenuating

circumstances/comments/additional information you
would like to share (i.e. extended absence due to illness,
other school attended during high school, learning
disability, special talents, etc.)
1. Attended different high school: Santana High school
2. Was retained back from certain courses based on
the change of high school, so I had to retake about
3-4 courses.
3. Had a big absence during my freshman year, which
affected some of my freshman year courses.
4. JROTC
5. Key Club
6. LEO Club
7. Dance Ballet
