TRDU features and functions

TRDU features and functions
The TRDU module integrates the following three functions into one single module:
Transceiver
Multi-carrier power amplifier
Duplexer/filter
The TRDU module can manage up to two (TRDU40-21) or four adjacent carriers
(TRDU60-21) in UMTS Band I (2110-2170 MHz in downlink; 1920-1980 MHz in
uplink) with the following characteristics:
Downlink: one transmit chain supporting up to two or four adjacent carriers (spacing
between 4.6 and 5.2 MHz)
Uplink: dual receive chain in a main/diversity arrangement supporting up to two or
four adjacent carriers
RF air interface is supported through two antenna connections:
One duplexed antenna connection supporting transmit and receive main paths
(Antenna Main)
One single antenna connection supporting receive diversity path (Antenna Div)
The TRDU module provides an Antenna Interface Standard Group (AISG) functionality.
Base band interface is supported through one slave CPRI link at 1.2288 Gbps
(TRDU40-21), or one dual CPRI link (UMTS + LTE) at 2.45 Gbps (TRDU60-21)
Note: LTE stands for Long Term Evolution
The TRDU module includes a DC/DC converter for the -48 V DC power supply
conversion.
The TRDU module also incorporates a Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) meter to
monitor RF mismatching between antenna and TRDU main antenna connection. This
VSWR meter monitors Return loss at antenna main port connection. Two VSWR
thresholds are monitored, corresponding to two alarm levels reported through CPRI
interface.
The following figure illustrates the internal architecture of the TRDU module.

TMA mode
An additional amplifier is added on each antenna branch in order to compensate
feeder loss on uplink path.
Two sub-modes with TMA can be used:
TMA UMTS mode: in this mode, the TMA is powered and monitored from the
TRDU module.
TMA Mix mode: in this mode, the TRDU module manages only extra gain on
uplink paths introduced by the TMA. This mode can be used in case of antenna
sharing with another system (the TMA is powered and monitored from this
system), or in case of AISG TMA (the TMA is powered and monitored by the
AISG primary device).

European regulatory requirement compliance

Overview
The TRDU module and the MC-TRX module fall under the requirements of the Radio
and Telecom Terminal Equipment (RTTE) European directive 1999/5/EEC. The RTTE
directive covers requirements in the following areas:
Protection of the Health and Safety of users and all other persons, including objectives
with respect to safety requirements contained in the Low Voltage Directive
(73/23/EEC)
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) protection requirements contained in Directive
89/336/EEC.
This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. If not
installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, it can interfere with
radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interferences do not occur
in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio
or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on.
The user is encouraged to correct any interference problems.
EMC requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of compatibility for
apparatus in residential, commercial, and light industrial environments. Compatibility
levels, however, do not cover extreme cases that can occur in any location, but that
have a low probability of occurrence. In particular, they may not cover cases where a
source of interference that is producing repeated transient or continuous phenomena is
permanently present. This could include, for example, a radar or broadcast site in the
near vicinity. In these cases, it may be necessary to limit the source of interference,
and/or apply special protection to the interfered part.
Note: For operation or maintenance inside Alcatel-Lucent systems, the operator must
always wear the antistatic wrist strap to maintain the integrity of the product.
Effective use of the Radio spectrum allocated to terrestrial/space radio communication
and orbital resources to avoid interference. The routes and standards used to
demonstrate compliance with these requirements are outlined in the following
paragraphs.
TRDU or MC-TRX EMC
Compliance with essential EMC requirements was demonstrated using
EN301489-1 & -23.
TRDU or MC-TRX radio compliance
Compliance with the requirements of effective use of the radio spectrum was
demonstrated using EN301908-1 & -3.
TRDU or MC-TRX safety
Compliance with essential safety requirements was demonstrated using EN 60950.
TRDU or MC-TRX health protection
Compliance with essential health requirements was demonstrated using EN50385.

European Union Environmental Directives (EUED)
The TRDU module and the MC-TRX are manufactured according to the following two
European Union Environmental Directives:
Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), 2002/95/EC.
The RoHS directive restricts the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent
chromium, poly-brominated biphenyls (PBB) and poly-brominated diphenyl ethers
