SYLLABUS FOR GRADE 7

Course Title: English Communication Arts and Skills through Philippine Literature-English 7
Courser Meeting: 10 weeks
Course Description:
The English Communication Arts and Skills develop the various language and literature skills of the learners. The competencies will develop all the given skills
though the communicative and theme- based lessons, examples and activities that will poster collaboration and develop higher -order thinking. The texts and examples help
learners in enhancing and developing their English communication skills in line with core values and activities which reflect in reality as well as timeless Philippine literature
which develops social skills, personal affective domain and critical thinking abilities.
A. Pre- requisite
The five macro skills such as: reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing should be acquired and developed during intermediate level to be ready for the
grade 7 curriculum.
B. Overview of the Course:
1. Purpose and Rationale
English communication arts, through Philippine literature seeks to present an integrated approach to the study of English by using literary pieces to portray as a
living language. The approach is likewise situational in that introduces real-life situations within the experiential background of the learners. This enables them to easily relate
the situation and experiences to the lessons that follow the developmental pattern from simple to complex. It aims to be disciplinary and at the same time rational by bringing
into exercise on the arts, ideals, and goals, and by discussing such issues as environmental awareness, peace education and the like. It is also communication-oriented and
values-integrated through its conclusion of oral and written exercise toward developing in the learners competence of self-expression in the language.
The literary pieces used in the texts have been carefully selected to bring about in the learners not only proficiency in the use of the language but also a
consciousness of their growth and development as social individuals.

General Objectives:
The learners are expected to develop communicative competence through his/her understanding of Philippine literature and other text types for a deeper
appreciation of Philippine literature. Also, they are expected to enhance the five macro skills such as listening, reading, and writing, speaking and viewing.

ACADEMIC POLICIES and SCHEDULES
Assignment/Homework
- Giving of assignments is scheduled. Students must submit their assignments on time.
- For longer assignments or group-work needing research, teachers and students should agree on a specific deadline.
- Failure to submit their assignments on due date receive no score, unless with valid reasons, such as a) sickness, b) death of immediate member
of the family, c) attendance to activities endorse by the school.

Quizzes and Other Requirements


- No special quiz is given to a student who is absent in class.

Examinations
- There are four (4) Preliminary and four (4) Final examinations scheduled and administered in a year.
- A student must get his examination permit from the cashiers office and submit it to his adviser, before the schedule of the exam.
- A student must act in accordance with other requirements set by the teacher before the exam.
- Special examination is given to a student who fails to take the Prelim and Final examination for the following reasons:
- Sickness of the student
- A student who got sick shall present a medical certificate attesting confinement or treatment from the hospital or a letter from the parent or
guardian.
- Death or sickness of a member of his immediate family
- Official delegate of the school to conferences, seminar workshop, etc.
- Special examination will be given a week after the scheduled examination.

Attendance, Absences, Cutting Classes and Cheating

Regular Attendance

All Students are required to attend classes regularly.


Absences

A student who is absent from class should seek an admission slip from the Guidance counselor upon presentation of a letter of excuse from his
parent. In case of prolonged absence due to illness or accident, a doctors certificate is required.

Parents, who wish to have their child be excused from school, should inform the office before the absence is to be made.

A student who has been absent from class is responsible for any lesson, class work, or class activity during his absence. He automatically loses
whatever credit or points given to a quiz, graded recitation or any related activities in the class during his absence. However, special consideration shall be
given to students who are absent from their classes due to accident, illness, death in the family and attendance in or off campus activities as official
representatives of the school.

Cutting Classes

A student who is inside the campus but does not attend classes/school activities will be marked absent.

A student is not allowed to leave the campus during class hours unless otherwise permitted by the Prefect of Discipline or the Principal.

Cheating

Cheating is a serious offense. A student who is caught cheating during the conduct of examinations and quizzes automatically gets zero in the particular
examination/quiz.
Form of Cheating

-Talking or whispering, making signs/symbols and side glancing during quizzes.


-Looking at somebodys paper or holding others paper.

-Exchanging/passing the test paper and notes.

-Referring to, notebooks and other codes.

-Going out during examination time without permission from the proctor or adviser

SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS


Students who wish to leave the campus during school hours will seek permission from the guidance counselor or the Principal.
Students who participate in any outside activities as official representatives of the school or any of its recognized clubs/organizations, should secure written
authorization from the Principal. (e.g. Parent Consent)
Students are not allowed to go outside during lunch break and must return before the first period in the afternoon..
For emergency cases, the school conducts an earthquake and fire drill if the location of the school is prone to such disasters
TRANSFER GOAL: The learner demonstrates communicative competence through his/her understanding of literature and other text types for a deeper appreciation of
Philippine Culture and those of other countries.
CONTENT STANDARD: The learner demonstrates understanding of: pre-colonial Philippine Literature as a means of connecting to the past; various reading styles ways of
deterring word meaning; the sounds of English and the prosodic feature of speech; and correct subject-verb agreement.
