friends. The need for a change from the daily routine and utilising her
holidays for relaxing were the main reasons for travelling. Her job was
demanding and she didnt get much holidays so, she planned trips around
long weekends or close to festivals like Diwali where she gets long
holidays.

2. Stages in the Purchase Process

Deciding whom to go with - She goes to trips with her friends and
colleagues.
Deciding when to go - She consults all her friends to zero in on a time
frame depending on their holidays, and mostly makes two trips in a year.
Deciding which place to go to (weighing alternatives) - She prefers
beaches, because her friend circle likes water sports
Making the final plan and decisions She plans the entire trip with her
friends choosing the hotels, mode of transport etc.
3. Information search
Internet was the primary source used for making decision in all the above
stages. She searched for places on the internet, to find out about them.
She studied about the destinations and collectively decides the place with
her friends. She researches about hotels and the places she wants to see.
She does not take any packages or help from agents.
Word of mouth She consulted her friends and family for feedbacks for
different places.

4. Evaluation of alternatives

Place -
(a)Her travel companions liked water sports so they preferred
beaches for their past trips
(b)Fun, adventure and excitement was what they looked for.
(c) Convenience, ease of access and time played a critical role in
deciding the place.
Planning the trip
(a) Taking online packages - She believes that packages are very
costly and she will be bounded by their schedule. She wanted
flexibility and independence of choice
(b) Booking from an agent She never considered taking help of a
travel agent as she did not find them reliable.
(c) Planning herself - She plans her trips exhaustively by her own,
booking everything online right from the flights to hotels. She
sticks to the plans strictly. It takes around one month for her
group to plan the trip. Eg. She went to Lahaul Spiti, an adventure
trip.
Mode of travel
(a) Railways They were quite time consuming. Reservations too
were a problem.
(b) Flights They suited her time constraints and were easily
available online.
Hotels -
Factors like luxury, comfort, view were secondary for her. Time and budget
constraints governed her choice of hotels. She mostly booked hotel rooms
online too.
hotel, comfort, budget are secondary for her, company of her friends, ease
of access to place/convenience, time are her primary concerns and
whatever is time saving she goes for it, like flights to cut down.
She is very satisfied with this way of planning trip. She feels happy after
successfully executing her plans. And plans to continue this method of
travel.
She sets aside a particular amount for her travel expenses and plans
everything within the budget constraint.

offers are done based on mood and purpose Online reviews of people who have already visited various
places are also considered.

Evaluation of alternatives: Time: 2-3 days

Destination: depending on mood and purpose various choices for destination is considered and a mutual
decision is taken by all the family members.

Packages: the consumer only goes for online packages and hence she looks for various offers available
online which suits her budget and time constraints. She doesn't prefer planning herself because it
consumes lots of time and also is inconvenient. For some trips travel agents are also preferred.

After considering various alternatives a decision needs to be made. The major constraints like budget and
time are considered here. Since the time needs to match everyone's holidays and the budget needs to be
within limits a suitable package is chosen which satisfies all the constraints. Also the reviews of other
people who have gone to the same destination also plays an important role. The reviews of online
packages dealers are also considered and the combination of all these factors help in making the decision
