lot of things but this is what will appear on the certificate, so it is best if you
highlight(put an accent on) the thing that you want.

Key competences

1. Communication in foreign language

During this experience, I have improved my English level and I have learnt a bit of
Romanian to communicate with native people because the most of them dont speak
English. Also its a form for integrate in our little community.

2. Learning to learn

Through processing my time in Romania with my mates, friends and mentors as well as
during the trainings I attended, I became more ready to express and share my emotions,
thoughts and experiences. The experience also gave me the opportunity and skills to
reflect upon the different stages of my time as a volunteer and what role they play for
her future and life in general. I were able to use her previous international experiences
to become more competent to face and adapt into new situations.

3. Social and civic competence

Through my daily work with children and the situations which arise in the course of
that, I learned a lot about how to deal with them: Pedagogy through hands-on
experience as opposed to textbook theory only. It showed me that improvisation as a
combination of common sense and experience is very often more important in everyday
life than doing something according to strict rules. When you start into a group of
children you have to find your position: you are the teacher but you still want to be their
friend. It's challenging to be authoritarian, friendly and caring at the same time. It needs
empathy to work with children: motivating them, solving conflicts, being patient.
Working in childcare and dealing with those scenarios given above was fairly new for
me. Anyway, I gained much experience and I really enjoyed the work, so now I consider
myself to have been successful in that job.
4. Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship

I have developed my initiative while we organized cultural and other kind of activities
for the schools. We had the freedom for design each activity based on our abilities, in
my case my knowledge about social topics and Spanish language.

5. Cultural awareness and expression

Only when you leave your own familiar surroundings will you be able to become more
aware of your own culture. By noticing that something that you took for granted is
absent or completely different in another country, you realize it to be an idiosyncrasy of
your own culture. I experienced this several times. It is very interesting to get to know
foreigners' view, perception and stereotypes about your own country. They unveil a new
point of view and make you reflect and become more tolerant towards other cultures. In
order to really get to know a foreign culture, you have to become a part of it.
Furthermore, I got to know a great deal about European cultures by meeting up with
other European Volunteers doing an EVS in Romania. Despite all the differences, you
can still see some common features in all those cultures, which make us somehow
belong together.
