Reflection of Assignment: Writing a position paper as opposed to a research paper, you are able

to write down more of your thoughts and feeling about your topic while still giving real evidence
from research to persuade your point. It was challenging to have a strong opinion on one side and
still have to give the other side in this paper. It helped me learn to see the whole picture and
question why I believe one side over the other. When revising this I was able to expand my
thoughts to both sides of the argument and try to influence the readers more to my side. I didnt
have my visual representation/example on the first draft. I also had to change the way I presented
my references. Rather than just quoting and referencing them at the end of the paper on its own
page, I incorporated all references in my paper and changed each paragraph around to flow and
represent a factual reference. It has always been a requirement to just have the references at the
end of the paper so learning how to flow my writing to acknowledge them and connect it to my
position was the take home from this coursework. When you step back and actually acknowledge
all aspects and questions when writing a position paper, you are able to understand the full
dynamic and give a better arguments to pull people toward your side of thinking. Not only did I
responded to both arguments, I also presented legitimate research to back up my position. I could
see this functioning as an online article on msn or yahoo that would be directed specifically for
people who are struggling with this problem and/or people who know people in this situation.

Porn is bad for your health

Pornography is across the world and people can access it anywhere there is a computer.
Adults, kids, Americans, Europeans, fat people, skinny people, there is no way to stop it or keep
people from doing it. Porn was something that nobody talked about but most people did. Now it
is everywhere, it is easier to access it and its not something that is a secret anymore. It has
become this socially acceptable thing that is broadcasted across the internet and that is scary to
me. Porn makes sex this objective, unnatural, unreal and lustful thing when it is supposed to be
loving, deep connection, intimate and amazing thing. When and how did we let it get this far and
why is it ok?

When stating health as an issue I think this mostly goes for mental health and changing
the brain chemistry in a human. When you associate the pleasure part of the brain with moving
images on a screen it changes how and what makes you aroused. Not only is porn just images
and other people doing an act that ultimately everyone wants to do, but we settle for just
watching it on a screen and pleasuring ourselves. Doing this over and over again creates that
association and thus creates a mental health issue. It causes problems when trying to get aroused
with a significant other in multiple ways. Porn creates fantasies and imaginary situations or
dreams that arent real. I mean, they are real people doing a real act, but it is not real life. Most of
pornography shows impractical men and women doing this deed and making normal people feel
inadequate or unattractive. It has ruined marriages, relationships and even peoples lives. It can
even become an addiction that will need an institution or rehab to overcome. Here is what Alex
Lo an SIRS Issues Researcher found, Such proposals may be extreme but they are not
completely indefensible. As a multibillion-dollar industry, the production of porn is dominated
by a handful of democratic countries - the US, Japan and Germany. So its restrictions and
censorship are often framed in terms of free speech. But an increasing number of social
scientists, policymakers and feminists are proposing to look at porn as a public health issue.
There is a growing body of scientific evidence that porn addiction is like other physical
addictions, and that it affects behavior in comparable ways. Of course, it is difficult to predict
how porn affects some people but not others. But it's the same with drugs, alcohol and gambling.
We still see fit to ban or restrict their availability.
Not only can pornography be bad for mental health as an adult, but what about when you
get into the real nasty part of porn where children or underage individuals are involved? It is a
horrible thing to even think about let alone the idea that there are characters out there who enjoy
watching events like that, which to me, is an entirely different problem in itself. It is sad that
there are human beings that get off on something so cruel. As Mrinal Pande another SIRS Issues
Researcher said, The state, as victims of sexual violence encounter it first hand, is not a free
floating reality. It has a clear face and voice: that of the SHO who tries to bribe a child victim's
father and buy his silence, that of an ACP who slaps a young female protester, an MP who looks
upon the anger of women protesters dismissively, calling them a bunch of "dented and painted"
females. With such movers and shakers, can even a vociferous demand for positive state
intervention tilt the scales of justice in favor of women and children? Can the battered victims
and their families be coaxed into believing that the state as it is, must be viewed as a primary tool
of their empowerment?
The two most common questions I am asked at my organization, Answer, about teens
watching porn is, "Why do they do it?" and "How will it affect them?" My response to the first
question is, "Because it's porn." It's forbidden for teens (and with good reason), and chances are
they want to see it. They also watch porn because it's about sex, and the restricting and censoring
of school-based sexuality education throughout the United States is hugely to blame for why
curious young people go to porn to learn about sex. Porn is easily accessible. It is clear, direct
and graphic, as opposed to the cryptic answers they receive from the uncomfortable adults in
their lives. It is arousing, and when you consider the hormonal changes adolescents and teens
experience, their interest and curiosity are completely normal -- just misdirected. This was
written by Elizabeth Schroeder from her article Teens Shouldnt Learn about Sex from Porn.
Our generation needs to find an alternative solution and fix to this issue. Otherwise what will
happen in the future with our children or our childrens children? There needs to be more sex
education throughout our school systems and even more so by parents. We as a society are so
hush, hush, about this situation that it has created a serious problem. It our responsibility to
change and fix this issue. Educating and informing children/young adults about sex and all the
good and bad rather than shaming it and promoting abstinence, I mean, it obviously hasnt
worked thus far. Rather than having the only education be porn and forming a bad habit that
could take years to overcome or never overcome, we need to figure out a positive change. If we
can do that, we can get our mental health, or social dynamics with people, our thought process,
the love for one another and create an overall better life for everyone.

On the flip side of this argument, there are some disputes that it is actually good for you
to watch porn. It can be healthy in a way it can make you more sexual and it can help you find
out what you like or what turns you on. It could help couples learn a few things in the bedroom
to help with their sex lives. EJ Dickson, an author from The Daily Dot said, Porn doesnt just
give you the skills to learn how to better please your partner, either: It also can help give you
skills for how to better please yourself., which was written in The 5 reasons you need to watch
more porn. Also, it is safer than having sex in a sense of not having a baby or getting a sexually
transmitted disease when having unprotected sex. But, even with these positives, does that make
up for the addiction and mental health issues that could also arise?
