can only achieve their full drainage perfor-
mance if bends, connections and fitting
pieces are installed in consideration of the
hydraulics principles. Incorrect installa-
tion, on the other hand, makes possible
causes and effects from slight malfunc-
tions to complete failure.

sound insulation
In addition to laboratories for sanitary
technology and material development,
Geberit also operates a building technolo-
gy and acoustics laboratory that is unique
throughout the world. Here, not only in-
dividual components but entire drainage
systems are tested for their hydraulic,
acoustic and static characteristics. Thus
for example, the sound transmission of
discharge stacks can be tested and opti-
mized over several floors under realistic
external testing bodies in the field of fire
protection. Both prototypes as well as
series products are tested under realistic

The Geberit HDPE drainage system meets
the requirements for all applications like
duct installations, exposed installations,
casting into concrete as well as under-
ground installations. It is suitable for use
in all building drainage applications as well
as in industrial, commercial or labora-
tory waste water installation. The Geberit
HDPE pipes and fittings are completely
leakproof and can also be laid in concrete.
The pipes and fittings can also withstand
shock, lowering, knocks or pressure up to
1.5 bar without breakage or lasting defor-
mation. The plastic used is environmen-
tally friendly and completely recyclable. No
toxic emissions whatsoever result during
its processing or in the event of fire.

mensions of 32 315 mm in a broad range
of fittings. Depending on the use, the pipes
and fittings can be connected by butt
welding, electrofusion welding, screw con-
nections, ring seal socket, adapter clamp
or flange.

Tricky challenge for hydraulic
technicians
In conventional discharge stacks very
special flow laws apply. Quickly changing
pressure situations can affect the traps
of being sucked empty or being blown
empty by negative pressure or overpres-
sure. Both are extremely undesirable. To
avoid this situation, many high-rise build-
ings have very generously dimensioned
discharge stacks and a parallel ventilation
pipe which is connected to the discharge
stack at regular intervals (see example
picture 1).
Geberit know-how in pure culture
With the Sovent fitting, Geberit has de-
veloped an inexpensive and technically
perfected alternative to conventional
drainage systems in high buildings. Geberit
Sovent prevents a hydraulic seal in the
discharge stack, thus increasing the flow

capacity of the discharge stack. At the
same time, Sovent ensures air circulation
between branch discharge pipe and
discharge stack. This makes a parallel
ventilation pipe unnecessary. In addition,
a partition prevents the penetration of
foam or spray water into the branch
discharge pipe (see example picture 2).

compatible
Geberit Sovent is available in two different
sizes for discharge stacks with a diameter
of 110 or 160 mm. The fitting is produced
from the resistant plastic HDPE and can be
welded together with Geberit HDPE or
Geberit Silent-db20 drainage pipes abso-
lutely leakproof and pressure resistant.

the weight of the pipes and fittings. This
reduces natural vibrations and effectively
