A. The word Titanic means huge. This ship was very big with many staircases, rooms,
dancing halls, swimming pools and all the luxuries one could think of.

9. Why did the California not come to help the passengers on the Titanic?

A. The California could not come to help the passengers on the Titanic because its radio
was turned off and the operator was asleep.

10. Why did all the passengers not get into the life boats?

A. All the passengers could not get into the life boats because there were not enough life
boats to hold all the passengers.

A. The people of Hamline were facing the problem of too many rats in the city and they could
not get rid of them.

A. The Pied Piper said that he would solve the problem if the Mayor could give him five

A. The entire nation was Gandhijis family and he was the head of that family. He was their
friend and companion.

1. What made Anna fall ill?

A. Constant travel and long hours of practice made Anna ill. She caught a chill during a
train journey from Holland.

2. What was the fitting tribute to Anna?

A. The day before her show at Brussels Anna fell ill and died. Nevertheless the show went
on except that all the other players were doing their roles while there was a spot light in the
places where Anna was supposed to be. It was indeed a fitting tribute to her.

3. Describe Velus routine for the past six years?

A. For the past six years ever since Velu possessed the piece of land, he had been
cultivating it season after season, and harvesting jowar and dal alternately. He had never taken
a holiday and had worked all round the year.

4. What made Velu return happily to his village?

A. After the old woman told him to be patient as the earth also needed some time to
breathe, he realized this could be true and went home happy and decided to wait.

5. Captain Smith and his crew tried to save the passengers. Describe three things they did?

A. Captain Smith and his crew sent messages asking for help on the radio. They woke up
all the passengers, and they lowered life boats with people in them into the sea.

6. Why did the Pied Piper take the children away?

A. After he got rid of the rats the Pied Piper asked the promised five hundred guilders but
when the Mayor offered him only five guilders he took away all the children.

7. Who was the strange person? Describe him briefly.

A. The strange person was the Pied Piper. He was tall and thin with a long and serious face. He
wore a coat of many colours and a tall red hat. He held a long, thin pipe in his hand.

8. How did the prince change and feel sorry for the people?

A. When the prince died and his statue was put up at a great height he could see how people
lived. He could see the suffering among the people and felt savy for them.

9. How did the prince help the little girl who was selling match sticks?

A. The prince felt sorry for the little girl because she could not sell the wet match sticks and
she had no money to take home so the prince told the swallow to take the remaining Sapphire
from the other eye and give it to the poor girl.

A. This took place at 2.30 a.m. on the 15th of April.

A. They drowned with ship.

3. Why did the captain and his crew not jump into the water like the others?

A. The Captain and the crew are not supposed to leave the ship till everybody leaves. This
is a rule that is followed.

A. The man was the Pied Piper.

A. He was a tall and thin man with a serious face. He wore a coat of many colours and a tall

1. Thomas Alva Edison.

Edison was born in Ohio in the USA. in 1847. He was an innovative scientist. He made
working models of a steam engine and steam powered sawmill. His favourite invention was
the photograph. He also invented electric bell. He also tried to invent electric bulb but he failed
and did not give up. He made many other inventions too.

2. Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa was born in Albania in 1910, she died in 1997. Her real name was Agnes
GonxhaBojaxhiu. She was very famous woman. She started the Missionaries of Charity in
Calcutta, India. She worked for forty years. She looked after the poor, sick, orphans and dying.
She won Nobel peace prize in 1979 for her kind work.

3. Mahatama Gandhi.

Gandhiji was born on 2nd October 1869, in Porbandar. His full name was Mohandas
Karamchand Gandhi. His father was Diwan of Rajkot. He studied law in London. He lived
very simple life. He fought against Britisher to give us freedom. He belived in truth and Non-
violence. He still inspires people all over the world. He is known as the father of our nation.
