A.4.1.4 Coping Strategies

(i) During flooding, they stay at their relatives house or at first floor

(ii) They were forced to build first floor

(iii) By moving the valuable things to first floor

(iv) Mentally prepared (buying candles and necessary things)

A.4.1.5 Suggestions

(i) Adambakkam lake, Madipakkam lake, Chitteri lake, Velachery

lake all have to be cleaned periodically.

(ii) In order to improve the flow pattern, aquatic weeds has to be

removed partially. They should not be cleaned completely
because they feed animals and biogas can be generated from
them.

(iii) Sand bar formations in Adayar River and Muthukadu have to be

removed.

(iv) Buckingham canal has to be widened.

(v) Check dams must be built wherever it is necessary to store the

rain water.

(vi) Removing encroachments

(vii) Cleaning the inlet and outlet channels of Pallikaranai marsh.

(viii) They suggested to read the report given by NEERI.
