View Full Version : Peukert's number for various of the deep cycled battery
brands/types

Are there any manufacturer or other sources which actually specify the Peukert number for specific deep cycle
batteries? And if not, how can one find the Peukert number for a given battery?

All the reputable manufactures have the data sheet specify each battery capacity against the discharge rate on
their deep cycle battery.

Sure, but you do not buy them from a box store. Only quality manufactures will publish the data. Take a loot at
Trojan battery product guide (http://www.trojanbattery.com/pdf/ProdSpecGuide.pdf). They publish 100/20/10/5
hour rates. You will also see Capacity Minutes at 25, 56, and 75 amps which are for RVer's and golf cart users.

Rolls has in depth as you can see on this cut sheet (http://www.rolls-battery.com/pdf/pdf_rolls
/6cs17ps.pdf?phpMyAdmin=2eda4dec0bd69647b9e3cf0f71e 01d23&phpMyAdmin=9dec4a269d70t7a63be7c).
Note at 100 hours is 770 AH, 20 - 546 AH, and 1 hours = 186 AH. Industrial batteries publish it graphically as
discharge curves.

best fitting Peukert exponent for those batteries. But I have not seen the Peukert exponent published directly.

The consequences are that if you want a very close approximation to the capacity for a discharge rate not shown
in the tables you will have to interpolate in a mathematically appropriate way (geometric mean instead of
arithmetic mean) or you will have to work just as hard to get the approximate Peukert exponent so that you can
get the number you want directly.

As a very general rule lower internal resistance as a function of capacity is also associated with a lower Peukert
exponent.

Is there any rule of thumb regarding the "ballpark" Peukert number for the various types of deep cycle lead acid
batteries.
