C.C & State Standard:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.K.1 Demonstrate command of the conventions of
standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.K.1.b Use frequently occurring nouns and verbs.

Objective: SWBAT use SWAT to point to the sights words on the board
that the teacher calls out.

Student Friendly Objective: Use SWAT to hit the sight word on the
board that the teachers says.

Assessment: Check for understanding when the children are

repeating the sight words on the board and also swatting the sight
words on the board.

Anticipatory Set: Put the fly swatter behind my back and tell them I
brought a little friend to help us with our sight words (Swat). Tell the
kids my friend is shy and needs us to put our listening ears on and get
ready to learn. Show the children Swat and tell them that he loves
sight words.

Recall Prior Knowledge: Go over the sight words on the board with
the children.

Input/Modeling: Put the sight words on the board with sticky notes.
Go over each sight word with the children by saying them each 3 times
together.

Check for Understanding/Guided Practice: Tell the students that

we are going to play a game with our new friend. Everyone is not going
to get the chance to hold our little friend but they can still play with
their brains and eyes. Students needs to point with their eyes to the
sight word that I say. I will pull names out of the stick jar and those
children will get the opportunity to come up to the board and hold
Swat. I will say a sight word and they have to find it fast and swat it
with the swatter. If the person is right the children will give a thumbs
up, if they are wrong they will give a thumbs down and we will work
together to find the right one.

Independent Practice: Children will practice independently in their

head while the student with Swat, swats the sight word.
Closure: Have Swat come out and tell them that Swat said they did a
very good job and to keep studying their sight words.
