Features-
Performance
Scoring
Performance Scoring
Performance scoring is a way of rating your satisfaction with the job. In other words,
how well the person doing the task has met your requirements.

Below is an example of how you might set up your performance scoring:

= % no problems
= minor problem
= major problem or - minor problems
= + minor problems or - major problems
= Excessive problems

Why Use Performance Scoring

Performance scores add an extra dimension to your checklists. They
Communicate your satisfaction with the job
Provide additional data for analysis
Allow you to keep checkpoints to a minimum
Turn a simple inspection system into a powerful quality improvement process
Think of your performance score as your grade. It reflects how well the job meets the
requirements of the task. Is the quality good; does it meet project specs/manufacturers
installation requirements? Was the task completed on time while taking all necessary safety
measure?
When inspectors do inspections, theyre looking at more than the checkpoints on their
checklists. Theyre evaluating the task using years of experience. Theyre referring to
specs, looking at drawings, and considering government regulations. If you were to try to
create a checklist that reflects all that your quality managers and superintendents would
consider, it would be long and tedious to use.
Using performance scores and notes is a very efficient and effective way to minimize the
number of checkpoints needed and still have the checklist reflect the end result you expect.
Performance scores turn a simple inspection checklist process into a powerful quality
improvement process.
How to Use Performance Scores to Improve Quality
Performance scoring is part of the CHECK in the PLAN, DO, CHECK, ACT cycle. You are
checking to see how closely the work meets your expectations. Using performance scores
provides feedback to those doing the work. With feedback, the right crews and subcontrac-
tors will make improvements to their work. Over time, youll see which crews and subcon-
tractors are responsive. And, you can award work based on performance.
FTQ dashboards and reports will show you performance trends by vendor, subcontrac-
tor, or crew. Scores add data for your overall analysis so that you can ACT (part of the
PDCA cycle).

Features-
Field Data
Collection Field Data Collection
When you need to add measurements, equipment readings, or other information, you
can use the data field at then end of each checkpoint.
Once entered, you can print the data out onto
your own pre-formatted reports such as
company forms or compliance documents.

What are Data

Collection Fields
Data collection are general purpose text fields from which you can output the data to
custom formatted reports. And, theres one at the end of each checkpoint on your
checklists.

Benefits of Data Collection Fields

Data collection fields let you use checklists for more than passing or failing a list of
checkpoints.

Use them to:

Create custom formatted reports such as USACE Daily CQC Reports or

pre-formatted company reports
Combine data fields from multiple checklists by multiple people to create one
complete document
Improve clarity on checkpoint reports when analyzing most common failures or
missed checkpoints
Input observations such as weather conditions, equipment serial numbers, and
measurements
Add a note specific to the associated checkpoint
Communicate a problem regarding a failure or missed checkpoint

Features-
Multiple Multiple Inspector Types
Inspector
Types Different Inspectors can inspect the same task, yet may have different reasons for
doing their inspections. Thats why, with FTQ, your different inspector types can
each have different checkpoints, data fields, and scoring.

What are Inspector Types

Anyone who has a stake in the outcome of your project can be an inspector. FTQ
lets you create checklists based on inspector type.

Youll be able to set single or multiple inspector types for each of your system users
depending on the role or roles they play.

Inspectors may include:

Superintendents Owners or owner representatives
Quality Managers rd party such as code officials, customers, or
Safety Managers testing labs
Subcontractors
Why Use Different Inspector Types

Different inspector types have different roles for evaluating the same tasks. Therefore,
the checklists they use should have different checkpoints. Obviously, quality inspec-
tors and safety inspectors will be evaluating different aspects of a task. But, what
about different quality inspectors or different safety inspectors?

They too can play different roles in the evaluating the same tasks. For example,
subcontractors self-inspecting their work may have different checkpoints than your
quality manager or superintendents. Scoring is also an area where you may want
variations.

How to Use Different Inspector Types to Improve Quality

Inspecting is part of the CHECK in the PLAN, DO, CHECK, ACT cycle. Having a
variety of source data (i.e. data from multiple inspectors) helps you make better
decisions moving forward. FTQ lets you combine data from multiple sources
(whether within or outside of your company) to get a complete picture.

If you use third party inspectors, they can sign on to FTQ and access their own
checklists. Or, you can import information into FTQ from their inspection systems.
You can also import customer satisfaction data into FTQ. Using FTQ dash-
boards and reports, youll have the information you need to ACT.
