Case 1
Case 1.1
Maximum Liquid Flowrate
Inlet Pressure
Maximum liquid flowrate (Stock-thank liquid flowrate) = 24643.23 sbbl/day

Case 1.2: Report Results

Temperature vs Total Distance for Inlet Pressure 17600 psia

Erosional Velocity Ratio Plot

Pressure & Temp vs Total Distance Plot

Liquid Holdup Fraction vs Total Distance
Discussion (Analyze Results)
1. When pressure is at 20000[si, flowrate is at 27619.57 sbbl/day. While at
target pressure of 17600psia, the flowrate is 24643.23 sbbl/day. In general,
as the outlet pressure (well pressure) decreases, the flowrate decreases. One
thing to note is that the pressure decreases pretty linearly across distance,
until it reaches about 20,000ft and the pressure and flowrate stays pretty
constant before dipping more around 37500ft.
2. Temperature of the well increases linearly up till 15000ft before it decreases
constantly up to approximately 37500ft.
Pressure vs Temp Curve

Comparing the plotted pressure vs temperature graphs with the hydrate pressure
and temperature, it can be seen that for this particular operation, it does not fall
into the hydrate operating region. The operating temperature region stays above
245F to 305F.
Case 2:
Case 2.1: Pipesim Simulation = U value of 200Btu/(h.degF.ft2)
Maximum Liquid Flowrate = 24747.25 sbbl/day.
Case 2.2

EVR vs Total Distance

Liquid Holdup Fraction vs Total Distance

Analyze Results
1. From the pressure plot, system is at maximum pressure of approximately
17600psi before decreasing steadily (linearly) across distance of 22000ft to
about 3500psi. Pressure drop decreases from 22000ft to about 37500ft from
3500psi to 3000psi before arrival at separator at approximately 1215psi.
2. As for temperature vs distance plot, temperature increases steadily from
reservoir to about 15000ft (260F to 300F) before decreasing slightly to about
290F. However, at approximately 22000ft, temperature drops tremendously
from 290F to about 40F. This is due to the increase in heat loss with large U-
value. Comparing with case 1 of u-value of 0.47, temperature retention is
significantly higher with maximum temperature of 305F; its temperature drop
is also more gradual and lesser magnitude as compared to case 2.
From the plot above, it can be concluded that with high u value of 200, the system
is said to be operating in the hydrate region at a lower pressure (<3500psi) and
lower temperature (<75F).

Case 3.1 = 50% water cut
Liquid flowrate = Stock-tank liquid flowrate = 1200 stb/day

Analyze/Discussions
1. From the pressure plot, it can be observed that the pressure drop is lesser as
compared to case 1 and case 2. With 50% water cut (case 3), the pressure
dropped to about 11500psi before staying fairly constant before arriving on
separator at pressure of 10000psi.
2. From the temperature plot, it can be observed that the temperature
decreases steadily across the entire distance. Unlike case 1 and 2 whereby
temperature decreases rapidly across 21000 22000ft, temperature
decreases more gradually. The outlet temperature is said to be around 55F.

Pressure vs Temperature Curve

From the above graph, it can be seen that with 50% water cut, the system is slightly
exposed to the hydrate region at lower temperature and pressure. Hence, various
operating strategy has to take place in order to prevent hydrate formation issues
(i.e. chemical injection, mechanical cleaning, pigging program etc.).
