to thank Tuan Syed for accepting my internship application, Director of Team 5, Mr.Feeda,

for accepting me at Team 5, Supervisors, Mr. Nawawi, Ms. Sucy, Ms Nadeerah, Ms. Deth, Mr.

Faizal for guiding me throughout the internship.

1.1 Testimonial Letter
2.0 Introduction to Internship Training

This module is aimed at introducing students to the requirements, activities and operations

involved in working in architectural/construction practices. The purpose is to facilitate the

involvement of students in professional attachments to architectural practices in order to develop

an understanding of the general nature, principles and procedure of law and legislation as applied

to architectural drawings, especially the building by laws. Students will also be exposed to the

process of authority submission for various drawings from an architectural practice and the range

of contract documentation produced to support these drawings.

Via a full-time internship attachment, students will further appreciate the documentation and

report-writing skills required of an employee ( Architectural Assistant/ Architect) in a typical

architects firm.
3.1 Project 1 : National Institute of Health

3.1.1 Rendering of National Institute of Health

LOCATION : SETIA ALAM

CLIENT : MINISTRY OF HEALTH

SIZE : 40 ACRES

The National Institute of Health (NIH) is a state-of-the-art complex that consists of 6 distinct

research institutes and offices, connected via carefully considered pedestrian linkages. I was

largely assigned to this project during the 8-weeks internship period, and my task was to

complete a 3D study model of the covered pedestrian walkway that surrounds the site.

Under the supervision of Mr.Faizal and Ms.Deth, I was to study the drawings of the covered

walkway, and to come out with options for the joints of the walkway roof. As the covered area of

the walkway was wide, the 3D modelling was done in 4 parts : Zone 1,2,3,4 respectively. Among

the four zones, zone 1,3 and 4 are located on a varied topographical solution, therefore, the

topography and the details of the walkway had to be studied to ensure that the walkway detailing
follows along the topography. Also due to the fact that the masterplan was conceived in a curving

manner, the walkways are also curved significantly, contributing to certain concerns of the edge

jointings of the walkways which was also studied in this period. The conclusion from the study are

later forwarded to the C&S Engineers for further study and feedback on the structural properties.

Through this 3D modelling task, I learnt that in essence, problem-solving is a constant driving

force in all projects, where we find a balance between aesthetics, technology and buildability,

while complying to the ever-present needs and problems of the site.

3.1.4 3D Modelling of Zone 2

3.1.5 3D Modelling of Zone 3

3.1.6 3D Modelling of Zone 4

My supervisor, Mr.Faizal and Ms.Deth also kindly brought us on a site visit tour around the National

Institute of Health Building. On site, we learnt a lot on basic construction matters and construction

detailings such as retaining wall detailing etc. Attached followings are photos from the site visit.

2.2 Project 2 : Presinct 11,14 Putrajaya Kindergartens

3.2.1 3D Model of Presinct 11, 14 Kindergartens

LOCATION : Presinct 11,14 Putrajaya

TYPE : Educational, Design & Build Project

Presinct 11, 14 Kindergartens in Putrajaya is a design & build project, and both projects are

undergoing construction simultaneously on different sites. Due to the difference of the sites, the

design are also differs to accommodate the sites, which makes it exciting and interesting to learn as to
how the same design intention is consistently carried thru both projects while tackling different site

problem. Alongside with trainees, we are tasked with studying and exploring the roofing and color-

scheme of the cladding of the kindergartens. It was educational to see on site as to how columns and

beams are arranged accordingly along the round curved nature of the building, the structural

properties of Presinct 11 and 14 are different due to the previous design being more continuous and

so the columns are more sparse apart as the round volume are not responsible for additional weight

such as stairs, while the latter round volumes are separated individually and are each responsible for

its own structural weight, thus the columns are more densely arranged. Attached following are

3.3 Project 3 : Teluk Datai Resort, Langkawi

3.3.1 Above photos are pre-refurbished phase photos of the Resort :

Main Building Facing Ocean View ( Top )
Main Lobby and Pool ( Center Left ) Jungle Villa Interior ( Center Right )
Pool Villa ( Bottom Left ) Jungle Villa ( Exterior )

LOCATION : Kuah, Langkawi

TYPE : Resort , Refurbishment

COLLABORATION : DL2A
Datai Resort was constructed two decades ago by and designed by renowned architect, Kerry Hill

alongside with collaboration of Didier Lefort of DL2A, Interior Designer and Architect. As time past,

Datai Resort has experienced weathering and deterioration to the wooden structure of the Resort

due to weather exposure. Thus, Datai Langkawi is to undergo an extensive refurbishment project with

GDP Architects and DL2A.

Upon site visit to Datai Langkawi, with the collected data from site, I was tasked with cataloguing the

categories of defects according to the blocks of the resort : Main Building, Block A, Block B, Block C,

Block D, Jungle Villas, Pool Villas and Spa Villa respectively. After I completed the task, I was assigned

with 3D modelling on one of the renovation options for the structure of the Headquarters Office of

the Resort. Different options are explored to offer options on different cost and buildability

considerations.
4.0 Side Projects:

Following are projects that I was involved briefly:

4.1 Perdana Quay, Langkawi

During the first week of internship, I was tasked to acclimatise with Vectorworks, thus I was tasked to
helping out with wrapping up a finishing project, I was tasked with exporting and preparing
presentation drawings, gross floor area and presentation perspective.

4.2 Plaza Equatorial

Plaza Equatorial is a 53-storey mixed development project located along Jalan Sultan Ismail with a
redeveloped plot ratio of 60% office use ad 40% hotel use. I was tasked with helping with some
Photoshop works with the renderings.

4.2.1 Plaza Equatorial Rendering

(
4.3 Pandora Serviced Apartment Site Visit

Pandora Serviced Residence is a mixed-use development located within the 88-acre Tropicana

Metropark area in Subang Jaya, Selangor. The residence has already finished construction and it was a

site visit before the handover stage, thus we get to visit the different units and see all the final

finishings throughout the site visit.

6.0 Conclusion

Throughout my 8-week internship period, I have learnt a great deal of knowledge from my colleagues

and supervisors. It was an incredibly eye-opening experience, and has provided me with great insight

on how real-life architectural and construction industry operates as well as industrial knowledge such

as construction knowledge, specifications and detailings that cant be learn from textbook. I would

like to express gratitude to GDP Architects and Taylors University from offering this opportunity and I

will strive to learn more in the future.
