Bench drilling machine
It is a light duty machine used to drill holes up to 15
mm size and usually placed on a work bench.
The feed is given by hand and hence the operator
can sense the cutting action and apply required
pressure while drilling.
A bench drilling machine consists of the following
parts;
1. Base
2. Vertical column
3. Work table
4. Spindle & drill chuck
5. Feed mechanism

Work Table
The arm carries a drill head

which can also move to & fro
along it.
These combinations of motion
offers great flexibility for
positioning the drill bit over the
work.
Radial drilling machines are
used for drilling hole up to 50
mm diameter within very close
limits.

Multiple spindle drilling machine
Multiple spindle
drilling machines are
used in mass
production for
drilling several
simultaneously.
The drill head
assembly has several
spindles and feeding
motion is obtained
by raising the table.

Gang drilling machine
When a number of single
spindle drilling columns
are placed side by side
on a common base and
have a common work
table, it is known as gang
drilling machine.
Each spindle has its own
power unit.
This type of machine is
generally preferred
when the work has
undergo successive
operations such as

Drilling Machine Operations
Apart from drilling, a number of other
operations that can be performed on a drilling
machine are;
1. Reaming
2. Boring
3. Counterboring
4. Countersinking
5. Spot facing
6. Tapping
