Type of education activity (1:1 ambulatory, program meeting, etc.) / Name of education program:

Group discussion educational road show/ Respiratory Care and Management

Location / hospital*: Runnymede Healthcare Centre 2nd Floor Medically Complex Care Unit

Students Initials / # of participants*: 7 registered practical nurses

Education level of student / participants (UG, PG, etc.)*: Professional learners

Positive aspects of session: Students are able to identify common management and care for respiratory

care. Basic principles and theory such as the function of the Respiratory system, timing of tracheostomy

care as per policy and standards are discussed.

Difficulties of session: Due to the complexities of the topic, with a given patient scenario, students are

confused on how manage emergent situation, and on what are the treatment in place to manage the

patient. The students didnt have much knowledge about Respiratory care of those people with

tracheostomy further making a passive discussion.

Reflection and interpretation of session (analysis): There are two things we need to consider if we are

teaching new graduate nurses or anybody entering to a profession. We need to make sure to assess their

level of learning pre, during, and post teaching sessions. Teachers/educators needs to be aware to make

an active discussion, and have the learner as the center of the attention.

Consideration of future strategies for managing similar sessions: Teaching a group of learners can be daunting

at time. There are many approaches that a teacher should consider, for my future strategy in teaching

with the same learner I will make sure to assess their level of learning, and make few adjustments based

on their learning capabilities.
