Before discussing the impact of public art on community development, we have to

discuss the meaning of public art. A public art can be defined as any media or art
that can be planned to execute in the area where all the people will able to see it
and have some physical existence. Generally this kind of art is executed in public
spaces so that it will be available for all. The important characteristic of public art is
that it have some positive message to the people. According to J. Clayton The sign
of a grate state or a grate city is the strength of its cultural life. So we can say that
the public art is the symbol of the cultural development of our society. Now the
question arises that what kind of impact public art have on community
development? Public art have many impacts on development of community. For
example if the city is full of public arts, then it can be used as a symbol of attraction
to attract the visitors. Here are the following impacts of public art on the community
development-
1. Improving quality of life- Today many of the industries who are planning to
relocate or want to expand their business looks for the location where the
cultural activities are high. They give more preference to those areas where
they observe continuous cultural activities. Public art plays a very important
role in cultural activities and these public arts also do a work to attract the
new industries. When the industries establish their business in that particular
area, many people get profit from that. For example they get the new jobs
etc. So we can say that the public art plays a very important role to increase
the job growth and also helps to develop the local community. So from the
above discussion we can say that public art have a very positive impact on
community development.

2. Culture and tourism- The public art is the symbol of development and the
history of that place. The public art is the best way to understand the culture
of that particular city. Many visitors visits the city just because they want to
see the public art of that place and want to understand the history and
culture of that place. When the visitors come to visit that place, many people
get the benefits from them and because of the public art, it become the place
of tourism where the visitors come to see the public art. Many people get the
job because from this tourism and the local government also helps financially
or in other ways so that they can increase tourism in that place. When the
government helps and the local people get the job from this tourism,
automatically community develops. So from the above discussion we can say
that the public art have a beneficial impact on economy.
