Scope of the document

The aim of this document is to calculate the short circuit current, symmetrical and asymmetrical, of the
power transformer manufactured by Getra, job n. 3273, having the following main characteristics:

- Rated Power (H/X/Y): 215/107.5/107.5 MVA

- Rated Voltage (H/X/Y): 23010x1%/34.5/34.5 kV
- Connection Group: YNd11d11
- Impedance H/X (at 107.5 MVA): 13.0% () / 12.5% / 12.0% () (max/principal/min tap)
- Impedance H/X (at 107.5 MVA): 13.0% () / 12.5% / 12.0% () (max/principal/min tap)

() values only informative and not guaranteed.

The rated current for each winding and for each tap positions can be deduced by the following table:

Normative and conditions of calculation

Under the aspect of the short circuit, the transformers manufactured by GETRA are designed according to
the guidelines provided by IEC 60076-5:2007-03. Short circuit strength are evaluated at the moment of the
first peak of current, which is fixed according to the recommendations of IEC 60076-5 (section 4.2.3) and
based on the following considerations:

a) according to its rating power, the transformer is classified as category III (above 100.000 kVA).
b) the symmetrical short-circuit current is calculated taking into account the relationship Xcc/Rcc,
where Xcc (Rcc) is the sum of the reactances (resistances) of the transformer and the system
Xt+Xs (Rt+Rs).
c) the transformer have two LV winding overlapped (X and Y) with the same voltage, rating power (half
compared to HV) and value of short circuit impedance versus HV winding, therefore it is comparable
to transformers only with one LV winding.

d) for transformers with two separate windings, only the three-phase short circuit is taken into account,
as the consideration of this case is substantially adequate to cover also the other possible types of
fault.

The conditions of calculation are the following:

- pre-fault voltage: is fixed equal to 1.0 Vn

- source impedance: according to technical specification Annex 1-

S_24_MX_P_00_000_38_001_05 the net contribution is null (short circuit apparent power infinite)
and the short circuit current is limited only by internal short circuit impedance of transformer.

- fault duration: is fixed equal to 2 seconds

- tap changer position: is fixed to no.21 (max current for HV winding and minimum impedance)

- ratio X/R: is fixed equal to >14, than , according to standard IEC 60076-5 section 4.2.3, the peak
value of the short circuit current is equal to:

I ccpeak 2.69
2.69 and consequently ka 1.9
I ccrms 2

Short circuit current calculation

To the aim of calculation of the short circuit currents of the windings, we have adopted following reference
circuit, that take into account three-phase short circuit at LV terminals feeding HV terminals:

Vpg (HV)
GRID

ZGR_HV ZTR_H-L

- ZGR_HV is the short circuit impedance of H GRID: equal to zero.

- ZTR_H-L is the short circuit impedance between High and Low voltage: equal to 0.12 p.u. for both
cases H-X and H-Y.

ZGR_HV = MVAGSUT / MVAGRID = 0,000 p.u.

ZTR_H-L = 0,120 p.u.

ZEQ = ZGR_HV + ZTR_H-L = 0,120 p.u.

IFAULT = 1/ZEQ= 8,33 p.u.

SYMMETRICAL CURRENT

IS_H = IFAULT x In_H = 4998 A

IS_X = IFAULT x In_X = 14992 A
IS_Y = IFAULT x In_Y = 14992 A

DYNAMIC CURRENT ( with coefficient kx2 indicated in IEC60076-5 equal to 2.69)

ID_H = IS_H x 2,69 = 13443 A

ID_X = IS_X x 2,69 = 40328 A
ID_Y = IS_Y x 2,69 = 40328 A
