Dear Parents,
This week in Readers Workshop, we
will read, On the Go To increase reading
comprehension, we will Recognize Text
Structure (Point out that the words in many
stories follow a certain pattern. Paying
attention to how a book is organized can
help them to understand it.)Classify and
Categorize (You can organize things you see
in books into different groups. Literary
Element: Rhyme (Words that sound the same
at the end) and Alliteration (Words that have
the same beginning sound - ex. ship, show,
shell - all have /sh/ sound)
This week in Writers Workshop we will
write a how to book using a cooking lesson
from last week as an inspiration. We will
make a book about How to Make a Peanut
Butter and Jelly Sandwich. We will be
focusing on using spacing between words. In
Math we will play many math games to
reinforce numbers and counting backwards,
comparing numbers, decomposing numbers,
and counting on from a certain number.
For Social Studies we will be talking
about Veterans Day and voting. In Science,
we will be learning about objects in the sky.

We have the books we need for Writers
Workshop!
Veterans Day Performance
Our music teacher, Ms. Grill is putting on a Veterans
Day program. Kindergarten will sing one song at the
beginning of this hour long show. We will leave right
after our song. Please have your child wear red, white
and blue or any combination of the colors. The
program will start at 8:30. The entire school will sing at
some point. Parents are welcome to come. It is very
crowded due to the Veterans that are invited!
Ways you can support your childs learning
at home:
Have your child read to someone each
night for 10-15 min.
Have your child practice writing simple
sentences paying attention to using
spacing between words
Play a word wall word game
These are the words that have been
introduced: I, the, we, like, a, see, go,
to, have, is, play, are, for, this, do,
and, what, you ,little, said, here, was,
she, he ,has, look, with, me, my
New words this week: why, when,
who
Help your child sound out words and
write about a topic of interest using
details in a drawing to go with the
words.
Count backwards from 20
Generate a number that is one more
than or one less than another number
up to 20 ( also a new requirement
from the state)
Practice counting by 5s to 100 orally
Have your child practice writing first
and last name (Assessment this
nine weeks)
Have your child spell CVC words as
you call them out like a spelling
