OCTOBER 2016
ESSF0024 INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
(10 MARKS)

Its hardly news that the iPad or any other tablets is quickly becoming the toy
of choice among infants and toddlers as the popularity of touchscreen apps
targeting their age group continues to take off, prompting eager parents to
hand over their devices to teach and entertain their kids with the latest
technology.
Is the iPad hurting Childrens brain development? Discuss.

As the question is, the answers are positive to it. The biggest problem is
when kids are playing on screens immediately before bed time. Even a few
minutes of playing on the IPad or IPhone before bed actually delays your
melatonin release, so obviously that's going to impact a childs mood simply
from a sleep scarcity perspective. Having a lit screen in the bedroom is also a
problem. The "light at night" affects children more compare to an adult.
Basically, having a lit-up screen in the bedroom has been linked to
depression and poor sleep quality. Parents should not give an IPad to children
because of their inactivity in their health. They should be active in
environment and nature. Depending on age, a child or teen may display a
number of red-flag behaviors as the result of too much screen time. So,
Children should not use an IPad in their early ages.
