(1)

(1) This value will change due to the capacitor charging in the termination RC circuit
and the capacitance in the Fieldbus cables.

Segment Checkout Measuring Capacitance
Setup the Fluke 123 Digital Scope Meter in the following manner to measure
capacitance on the H1 Segment.
Step 1. Press and release the Input A setup button.
Step 2. Select Cap in the measurements window for Input A using the arrow buttons.
Step 3. Press F4 button.
Step 4. Adjust the range to 5 micro farads using the mV - V button.
Step 5. Complete segment check out form below.

(2) A reading of <.5F indicates no terminator on the segment. A reading of a nominal

2F indicates a second terminator. The acceptable values assume the power supply
terminator is used as the second terminator and only one additional terminator is
connected in the field. Otherwise, the expected result would be 2F.

(3)

(3)

(3)

(3) An actual reading that is much greater or varies in a capacitor charging manner to
a high capacitance value (>1F) indicates a poor quality, noisy ground on the shield
ground bar. Be sure to correct this ground problem to prevent communication errors on
the Fieldbus segment.
