Policy,systemsandenvironmentalchangeapproachesseektogobeyondprogrammingand
intothesystemsthatcreatethestructuresinwhichwework,liveandplay.Theseapproaches
oftenworkhandinhandwhere,forexample,anenvironmentalchangemaybefurtheredbya
policyorsystemchange.Similarlyapolicycouldbeputinplacethatresultsinadditional
environmentalchanges.Theprocessisnotlinear.

Attheendoftheday,aneffectivePSEapproachshouldseektoreachpopulationsanduncover
strategiesforimpactthataresustainable.Effortsmayacceleratetheadoptionor
implementationofeffectiveinterventionsbyeffectivelyintegratingapproachesintoexisting
infrastructures.Suchapproachesoftenincludeadvocates,decisionandpolicymakers. 1

WhatisEnvironmentalChange?
Environmentalchangeischangemadetothephysicalenvironment.Physical(Structural

thatpromotehealthoranincreaseinsupportiveattitudesregardingahealthpractice),and
economicfactors(presenceoffinancialdisincentivesorincentivestoencourageadesired
behavior)influencepeoplespracticesandbehaviors.Whilerelatedtotheenvironment,such
changesarenotisolatedtoafewhouseholdsorindividuals,butinsteadreflectapopulation
