1. A student carries out an experiment to investigate the relationship between the


thickness, L, of a stack of coins and the number of coins, n. Vernier calipers are
used to measure the thickness, L, of the stack of coins.
Figure (a) shows the zero error, X on the vernier calipers.
Figure (b) shows the reading, l, when the number of coins, n = 5.
The student repeats the procedure of measurement with the number of coins, n =
10, n = 15, n = 20 and n = 25. The readings are shown in Figure (c), (d), (e) and
(f).
