His Worship, Mayor Don Iveson
City of Edmonton
2nd Floor City Hall
1 Sir Winston Churchill Square NW
Edmonton, AB T5J 2R7

Dear Mayor Iveson,

Subsequent to my letter to you dated August 31, 2016 we continued our conversations
with key stakeholders in the community about the possibility of bringing a hockey/sport
academy and sports performance centre to Edmonton that combines sport and education
with the goal of developing future community leaders. As you know, many of those
conversations have included representatives of the City of Edmonton and this letter is in
furtherance of those discussion. As we continue our due diligence on this opportunity, we
remain interested in the Coliseum site as the optimal location for this project in
Edmonton.

Hockey Canada has a mandate to grow the game of hockey by getting more Canadians
playing, coaching, and supporting the hockey system at large. It is my belief that while
hockey at all levels of play will benefit from a world-class facility, this redevelopment of
the Coliseum site may also address the needs of a broad range of sport development
initiatives.

Hockey Canada staff have been tasked with reaching out to a variety of key stakeholders in
Edmonton and across the province. Through these discussions, we have addressed the
subject of the Coliseum site project with Alberta Athletics, Hockey Edmonton and Hockey
Alberta. Additionally, Hockey Canada has initiated discussions with Edmonton Public
School Board and the Edmonton Catholic School Board. Based on those conversations, it
seems clear that a newly developed sports performance centre on the Coliseum site would
serve the needs of many constituents.

I believe there is a shared vision for a facility that would be comprised of four ice surfaces,
a multi-sport court area, a running track, and an area dedicated to off-ice high-
performance training. The collection of these facilities will provide the foundation for a
world class sport performance centre for youth and high-performance athletes alike. With
a facility of this nature, coupled with classrooms, lecture halls, a theatre, research and
technology, medical and training areas, along with several other sport ancillary services,
Edmonton has the potential to be on the leading edge worldwide of sport academy
training programs.

The membership of Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta and Hockey Edmonton are extremely
excited about continuing the discussions with the City of Edmonton, Oilers Entertainment
Group and other stakeholders related to bringing a hockey/sports academy and sports
performance centre to the city within the confines of a redefined and repurposed
Coliseum site. We look forward to hearing more about the direction of this project from
the City of Edmonton.

Yours truly,
