A detailed medical history will be taken, including information
on health, diet, occupation and life-style. It is important that you
inform your acupuncturist of any medication you are taking as
this can affect the acupuncture treatment you receive. The
practitioner will examine the client's specic problem and apply
an individually tailored treatment protocol. Occasionally minor
side effects may be experienced following treatment. Mild
physical reactions such as bruising, swelling and soreness affect a
small number of people. Some patients may also feel a little
sleepy or 'spaced out' after treatment and in rare cases may feel
nausea. This is a normal reaction for some people. If you
experience any of these problems and are anxious please call
your practitioner for advice.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture as a complementary treatment has been used
and developed over thousands of years in China. It is also
practised in many other eastern cultures and now
increasingly in the West.
As a holistic treatment, traditional acupuncture aims to
promote all aspects of health and well-being: physical,
emotional and mental. In the view of traditional Chinese
philosophy, this positive state of health depends on the
smooth ow and balance of the chi our body's
motivating energy as it moves through a series of
channels under our skin. The ow of chi can become
blocked or put out of balance by physical or emotional
factors such as infection, trauma, poor nutrition, anger, grief
or stress, resulting in illness.
Very ne acupuncture needles are inserted at points along
the channels of energy appropriate to the condition being
treated. Thus the body's own healing system is stimulated
and the correct balance restored. The aim is to treat the
cause of your condition as well as your symptoms, often
resulting in (or leading to) a more permanent solution to
your health problems. Acupuncture is also extremely
benecial in preventing ill health as well as maintaining
good health once balance has been attained. Needles used
for acupuncture are always sterile, single use only and
disposable.

leaves, owers and seeds. Herbal medicines may be for
either internal or external use and come in the form of
loose herbs for infusions, pills, capsules, lotions, plasters
etc. Each herbal prescription is tailored to the individual.

can be very powerful.

Tui Na (pronounced tweena)
Ancient massage that will rock and roll away your pain is
derived from the Chinese words Tui meaning to push
and Na meaning to grasp; two techniques fundamental to
traditional Chinese medical massage and medicine. It is a
deep, vigorous form of body work. The subtle variation of
direction and force that can be brought to bear on each
chi point is one of the unique features of Tui Na massage.
Every chi-point has an effect on chi movement when it is

Cupping Therapy
Is a therapy in which a jar is placed on the skin surface to
cause local congestion through the removal of the air in
the jar. This method promotes the free ow of chi and
blood in the channels, diminishing swellings, pains, and
dispelling cold and dampness which characterise some
disorders according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. We
also use a form of cupping (called balance cupping) in
which a special oil is applied with circular movements over
acupuncture channels, meridians, and points to create a
warm feeling helping to move the chi and detoxify your
system.
Moxibustion
The herb moxa (artemisia vulgaris) is burned in the form
of a stick or cone to provide mild local heat to various
acupuncture points. It is usually used in combination with
acupuncture and is effective in treating a number of
conditions, notably in breech pregnancies where it can help
to move the baby into the correct position for normal
delivery.
Ear Candle
They are made of natural fabric wax which help to
revitalize the acupuncture points, balance the ear pressure
and free the clogged pores. It is a delicate and non-invasive
method for resolving problems of ear, sinus and headache.
